This week is my birthday and I will "be 52" which is also the name of one of my favourite bands. I first discovered them when I was 13 and instantly fell in love with their unique and zany sound. They are one of those bands that have stayed firmly within my record collection and I've yet to outgrow, Planet Claire and 52 girls being my favourite tracks.

Metallica have been a constant in my life since the late 80’a when I became more aware of heavy metal music.
I still get a massive kick out of listening to them, seeing them on tour, hearing them live. |

There are a few Metallica tracks that can instantly transport me back to 1989 in my head |

As regards to what I have the most of and who I feel never put out a bad album it would be motorhead sure I've been into other bands longer..but motorhead always delivered the goods in my opinion and that's quite a feat when you consider the amount of albums they put out... |

Lots really, I was brought up on an eclectic mix of music from country and western Jim reeves, through sixties pop, eg Kinks, small faces then glam rock, Bowie, slide, eventually getting to my era punk/new wave. Sex pistols, squeeze, stragglers, specials.
I will plump for Creame, Sunshine of your love. Three blokes a set of drums and two guitars.

On my playlist I've got The Primatives, Pulp, Republica, The Cranberries, Transvision Vamp and The Juliana Hatfield Three (who I saw live in Brighton back in the early 90s). All of them take me back to teens in sixth form and early 20s at Uni |

Happy birthday! B52s are amazing. Saw them when they toured Funplex and they were so, so good.
As for bands for me…cardiacs, faith no more, early chili peppers. To be honest, there’s too many to mention.

Oh yes! I saw them live at Leeds Uni a few years back. I love their stuff, but I was warned by a mate that they were loud, so I took some industrial ear defenders along to the gig. Boy; they were deafening - and completely unbearable without the defenders in my lug holes.
I've been going to gigs for half a century - but Dinosaur Jr take the biscuit as the loudest. |

Happy Birthday! To answer your question for me it is Foo Fighters, it takes me back to a time when I used to follow a Tribute Band (Expose) who play in pubs around London and Essex and they would occaisionally play Foo Fighters and other groups. |

That’s what reminded me! Bug was/is a big album for me.
I remember watching J and his kid poking these massive balloons hanging from the ceiling at a flaming lips gig - with a plastic sword, obviously.
What a great band!

There are so many.
Pearl Jam
Metallica
Iron Maiden
But two bands that had a massive impact on my life are Acid Bath and Eyes of Fire.
Both bands created some of the most blissfully beautiful heavy reflective intense and dark music. Both bands came along, did two albums, then disappeared.. Both bands had an enormous influence on heavy music since the early 90's for Acid Bath and the early 2000's for Eyes of Fire. Both bands still get played a hell of a lot by me.
Both bands that, if I'm listening to them and someone disturbs me, they're likely to be told to eff off!!
Safe to say I absolutely adore them ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

Freak Scene is such a great song.
Hang on - you were on the word?? That’s amazing! They had great bands on that show (I have an idea Jo Whiley booked them).
I’ve got some pics of them from ATP festival (I review gigs/albums and photograph bands)

My fave artist of all time is the late great blues maestro Stevie Ray Vaughn.
I only got to see him the once but it will always remain my favourite gig, even though I have seen hundreds and hundreds of other brilliant performances.
I have listened to the albums he gifted us 1000's of times but I never get bored of them and are always in the car etc... whilst other artists ebb and flow from my current playlists and favour. |

Anything from early AC/DC days immediately transports me back to being a young lad driving an armoured fighting vehicle at night, no lights across Salisbury Plain in convoy, and all I could see was the hot glowing exhausts of the vehicles in front.....them were the days

Love them .
They're still just about my favorites
Never seen them live sadly

If they were playing live I wouldn't go and see them anyway. Not into stadium or arena shows anymore. I'd go see a tribute act though. Saw a great Cramps one a couple of years ago and I like the cramps a lot more than the B52s (both are awesome though) |

My personal memories of the B-52's are "Love Shack" and "Meet the Flintstones". I also remember Kate Pierson singing and jumping about in the video for REM's "Shiny Happy People" wearing those tights. I was only about 12 or 13 at the time but I was at that age...
I actually can't pick a single band or artist that holds a special place but I do have fond memories of seeing Ocean Colour Scene live shortly before they became famous. |

Hearing "Rock Lobster" takes me back to 70s. It was IMO the best time to be a teenager. Loads of different types of great music. I was a punk and the band that means the most to me and was lucky enough to see them and meet various members of the band quite a few times over the years is The Clash |
