A very harsh virus going round...

Have had a few people come to me asking to help with this and it is a particularly nasty one...

Basically you will get a screen come up with Cheshire police on it saying you have been illegally downlaoding files and that you have to pay £100 fine. Quite a few have already been caught out by this scam !!

What makes it really nasty is that it writres itself into the windows registry and hijacks your pc not allowing you to the desktop and in some cases not even into safe mode.

The good news it is removable so if anyone does get this or knows someone that has it give me a shout and will tell you how to remove it

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Heard about this. Malwarebytes has got a good guide for getting rid of it (trouble is you have to have online access to sort it).

I got it and just did a system restore back to the day before and computer was fine but there is some software you can download ( have to be on another computer if that one is hijacked) and it gives a walk through on how to get rid of it x

It's the ukash virus...affects Windows computers only.... as said writes to registry...2 ways out... f8 on start up...boot into safe mode and restore to earlier point ....and/or scan with Malwarebytes....

Ukash is really malware which is worse IMHO than computer virus as most virus companies have those covered.... I use Linux myself.... but there you go

And if they didnt get infected through email ?? Simply by visitng what they thought was a genuine site, or a genuine downlaod ?? Thats called not being internet savvy is it not ?

Just because some of us are wise to it and know how to stay protectred does not mean everyone is the same and thye are the people i would like to help or offer free advice to.
