Got to have a label for their fear mongering so they got the met office to name storms.

Remember the storm of 1987 … ‘why weren’t we told and prepared’ etc 🤷♂️
So if people aren’t informed … we complain … if people are informed … we complain!
We live in a world of graduated risk management now, on the principle of inform and prepare. Personally, I’d rather know in advance … rather than … ‘where the fuck did that come from!’
However, I do agree that the media have a lot to answer for in sensationalising everything and over reporting … cos it’s a story!

Wind is above 70mph at the minute and to increase in the next couple of hours.
All schools, shops and businesses are closed for most of today and a do not travel warning issued.
I've seen the widespread damage done with recent storms and trees across roads and swathes of forest brought down so this is going to be much worse.
I'm just waiting on the usual social media pics from the top of a mountain or along the seafront from the actual twats. |

In the 30 minutes since I wrote this the windspeed has increased to 92mph so it's no joke. |

"Donald Trump is denying ever having encountered Storm(y) Éowyn, that this is fake news and anyway she's a nasty woman causing millions of pounds worth of damage to his properties. "
Let’s hope he’s not insured the arrogant arse 👎 |

So 100 plus mph winds, thousands of fallen trees and road closures and tens of thousands with no electricity or heating is sensationalised? |

I grew up and lived in Blackpool for many years so I've seen a bit of wind.
What we used to call a bit of a blow is now sensationalised with a name and 24 hour rolling news cover as if it's the apocalypse.
A few slates will be blown of, a tree or two will fall over and someone will lose an advertising board. It's a winter storm.
All will be well tomorrow. |

Ha ha exactly
When o lived in Blackpool a few years ago a little friend of my daughters that weighed about 10 Kilos soaking wet took off as we went round a corner onto the front!
Lucky I was holding her hand honestly.
We’d have been on Sky News today! |

Damage to the cladding on one of my bay windows, lots of neighbours have lost a lot of tiles, one house round the corner lost part of their roof, lots of flooding but the sea defences kept the high tides at bay with the winds.
Not as bad as expected but the storm and potential damage risk is still high. |

"its a wee bit blowy here in Edinburgh right now
Stay indoors today. Find someone fun to do.
I wish I could. That would be the best plan
Pj party with me "
Now that I could get down with. Although I don’t have any pjs 😟 I have ventured out and bought wine and skittles though |

I escaped Edinburgh yesterday by train otherwise I would've been trapped there. Without PJs! Would boxers and tee shirt have counted? |

LOL. The days when I walked to school in short pants with the rain and hailstones coming at me horizontally.
They'd close the school now or social services would be involved. |

The weather is horrendous and we are advised not to drive but my poor mum who is 85 and been in hospital for over 2months is getting sent home by ambulance within the next hour. Surely this is wrong. Just annoyed at the moment. |

We've always called it weather.
It's rough here now and has been since this morning.
I walked to the shops and back really bracing.....
The trains never used to stop running and people never stayed home.
It's all part of giving something a bad name and making people fearful.
Sure , even an idiot would know not to stand under loose roof slates or on a slippy bridge edge but ffs......... it's the wind.
My bin lids are ALWAYS battened down ...... just part of living on Earth. |
