Childbirth Vs menopause?
Jump to: Newest in thread
Jools has been going through a crisis of confidence for some time now particularly at the moment, which lead to a discussion asking her what does she think has had the greatest impact on her mental health and physical appearance ( how she sees herself) was it childbirth harder or menopause.
The answer was menopause.
As she said it's been and still is a long drawn out experience, she doesn't feel like herself anymore.
What she did point out was after giving birth to our children for many years she assumed she was the only woman with a mummy tummy, it wasn't until we started swinging seeing other ladies naked she realised she wasn't alone.
So swinging had initially given a self confidence boost she now feels in the category of being a "kink" for guy's wanting to fuck in their words and older women, feeling she's lost her identity.
So I'll ask the same question to other ladies what's been hardest physically and mentally? |

I'm in a chemical menopause and have been for 2yrs. Childbirth resulted in permanent physical disability and the consequent impact on my mental health has been immense. I've been CHOOSING menopause for 2yrs. As an option to stop dysfunctional menstrual issues. I'd stay like this for the rest of my life quite happily but I will NOT contemplate any more pregnancies. In fact, I am happy to be having a hysterectomy soon. |

Menopause. Ive never had so many symptoms that have scared me shitless before, psychosis, suicidal thoughts, deep depression, constant anxiety, bursting into tears because I dropped an egg shocked me.
Happily I'm medicated and nearly out the other side, with a few new physical normalities, that I have learned how to accept and move forward with.

I'm only peri at the moment, so don't know how this will play out exactly. It's not fun so far.
What I do know is that two beautiful people were the end results of my labours. I'm not sure I'll feel so positively about reaching menopause. |

I am now coming out of a period of time that I can only describe as truly awful. I am menopausal and have been for over 5 years, but within the past year my HRT stopped working and my progesterone levels plummeted. This resulted in mood swings, brain fog, extreme fatigue and absolutely awful crisis of confidence. I felt like I was not myself anymore and had become a shadow of my former self that cries, feels afraid, and can no longer multi task or concentrate on anything for more than 2 minutes at a time.
My GP has been brilliant and I'm on the mend, and will return to work next month.
In answer to the OP, I have had 2 children and 3 pregnancies. I have been menopausal once, although with a HRT blip at year 5. I went through childbirth multiple times by choice, I would never choose to feel like I am losing my mind, which is exactly how I have felt recently.
When it comes to swinging I do feel my menopause has had an impact on it, but sod that the most important person in my sex life is my husband and if swinging stopped I really wouldn't care. But, if my menopause was causing a sexual problem for my husband and I then we would seek help.

I’m only in Peri so I can’t comment exactly as I’m currently medicated with the pill too.
Pregnancy was rough for me, worth it for the two beautiful beings I have but it was medically complicated and with a very premature baby number 2…. Not something I’d ever choose to go through again. |

Pregnancy was great, childbirth fine too..... I'm not menopausal but something I'm very very wary of.
The big plus of it though is I won't have endometriosis anymore. So hurrah - silver linings and all that! |

I don't wish to alarm you but a small percentage of women can have endometriosis after menopause if they had it before the menopause. Fingers crossed you will avoid it, but thought I would make you aware as when the time comes it's a conversation to have with your GP.

Menopause is horrible , some days I feel ugly and horrible, weight gain, hair thinning and not sexy at all.. give me a child to push out any day! I feel blessed my gorgeous partner picks me up and makes me feel myself and understands, even tho he is 11 years younger than me! I’m a moody moo somedays , I would hate me, but he loves me x |

An excellent thread ..OP - so much quality information here I honestly have learnt such a lot.
I have read about menopause and it’s potential sexual slowdown but to read the above in honest evidence and opinions is frankly a real education and to share, is very helpful to others of both sexes
Omg what the brain and body do !

Definitely menopause. Ladies, if you can have it get hrt!! Can't stress it enough. No magic supplement can give you your hormones back. We need our hormones for our mental health, our bones, heart health and to reduce the risk of dementia.

Menopause has had the greatest effect on me physically but as a direct result of procedures carried out during childbirth 🤷♀️.
My confidence has been slightly affected by my age whether menopause contributed to that I don't know, it's probably all tied in together.

Please may I suggest this book
“ come as you are “ by Emily Nagasaki ( PhD )
I think that means pretty heavy drinker
Was a New York best seller
It’s full of good information especially for men who just have no idea or concept of sexual libo waning and often the crushing effects of menopause … when sex stops - the fall out consequences which then can occur can be devastating but explained …
It’s a very worth read …
