Another child stabbed to death, this time in Birmingham.
When will the Government grow some balls and make carrying a knife 5yrs in prison minimum?
Is the Government too busy with jailing ppl that post hurty words and messages on social media?
Suspect is a 14yr old.
Should name the suspect. |

It's completely nuts
Daughter coaches at a local gymnastics group and I am always nervous about them keeping the door locked and access. It's insane to feel that way
To the point I am wanting them to train them in crisis management |

You must do what you feel is right.
You have a responsibility to make sure that everyone is safe.
Best to be safe than sorry.

Problem is the system is already way over capacity and the attacker's are usually children themselves and have to be tried as such.
They announced that purchasing knives online is going to be more difficult.
Should be an outright BAN on selling, buying and owning we don't need them for hunting ,they should face the same regulations as selling and owning guns, there's no argument anymore can give for ANYONE owning a knife with a two foot blade or any knife other than maybe small penknives.
I feel sorry for the families x |

"Anyone court with a knife 5 uyears no ifs or buts and no legal aid no excuses police to be able to do random stop and search
Yes this.
Until this happens nothing will change."
We are too soft on criminals right from the small antisocial behaviour crimes right up-to the worst possible crimes committed, too many people with their hands in the pockets of the criminal justice system wanting to exploit it to make as much money as possible with no care for the victim.

Cool. My son is a chef. When training he had to carry his knives (in a carry case) too and from college twice a week. . Imagine that, a teenager with a legitimate reason to be carrying multiple knives. 5 years banged up for learning seems a bit harsh
The issue with these knee jerk responses is that they are knee jerk and without any actual thought |

Just a thought. As part of a strategy to improve knife safety maybe they could provide lockers?there's no reason why this needs to be knew jerk. It's not a new issue. Controlling who carries, how it's enforced, consequences but above all addressing why the increase in people, especially kids who are making decisions to murder people |

" absolutely heartbreaking it’s getting everyday now I agree with locking people up for carrying a knife but these are kids killing kids they can’t go to prison & I think they know this there’s no punishment as such & the government needs to think of other ways for them to be punished asap |

That's a very easy fix issuing a licence for what are professional tools of the job.
How often does he go out walking around with his roll of knives just for the fun of it?
I would imagine it's just too and from a place of work/education.
Unless you are a serial killer walking around with a roll of knives any police would very probably guess it's genuine and it wouldn't take a lot to prove as such .

Feels like a reactive approach to tackling crime tbh.
I presume the suggested way to catch people carrying is increasing things like stop and search?
All of these things take the pov that crime is not a response to or result of social conditions in society.
We need to invest more in communities and more in organisations on the ground that are well connected and well placed to support young people in these positions not only escape them but also see other viable options for them to better their lives.
Things like cuts to youth services over the last 15 years haven’t helped. Pretending that not tackling the root causes of crime is not a factor here is lazy. We have to be honest if we want to get anywhere.

How long before Anti Stab vests become part of the school uniform.?
My 14 yr old grandson is half Chinese and has been set upon on a couple of occassions, fortunately no knives were involved, he does however attend martial arts at his fathers MMA gym as a result of which he was able to defend himself.

There is a 'Tools of the trade' thing where you can legitimately demonstrate that you are holding something as part of your profession. My tool box has three different stanley type knives and numerous other pointy sharp things that would easily fetch out an eye or other body part- without them i can't do my job which will seriously bugger up half of the country should you get more than a sniffle.
Can you imagine a tree surgeon being arrested for having a couple of chainsaws and an axe in the van? |

Yup if it means increasing stop and search so be it,your seeing this as a big inner city issue it's not it's rural communities it's small town's it's cities it's countrywide, lot's of these areas don't have any "community" to speak of it's not just kid's either.
I agree that there must be better education from a younger age to the dangers of knife crime and there MUST be consequences for getting caught not just a slap on the wrist and blaming social and economic factors.
Tackling it in the first instance by banning selling these horrible weapons and owning one.
Then yes all the stuff you mentioned but it's got to start by catching people with them.
Jesus look at the amount that gets handed in during an amnesty it's scary.
Knife crime isn't new to big cities it's now something of a pandemic nationwide. |

This is a dreadful tragedy and more action clearly needs to be taken to reduce knife crime.
If you arrest every kid found with a knife and put them in prison for 5 years then all you've done is turn a bunch of kids into hardened criminals at the earliest practical age.
What is needed is investment in the police (so they can turn up to crimes), the courts (so people are actually convicted of crimes), prisons (so they're not just overcrowded crime schools), prevention services (to catch at-risk kids before they commit a crime) and the community at large (so kids have an alternative to violence and criminality).
And we did that, once - but the generation that benefitted from all that then pulled up the ladder on the rest of us as they moved through the age brackets to focus instead on padding out their retirements.
We have a lot of damage to undo. |

" nobody has pretended anything. The two thoughts are not mutually exclusive. Even with infinite resources there will be kids carrying and we need them to be addressed as well as effort to address the causes for some of them. |
