"Who is a favourite detective / private investigator / copper in literature, tv or film of yours?
"
Inspector Clouseau (as portayed by Peter Sellers in the Pink Panther films).
Rumour has it Inspector Gadget was partially inspired by Seller's portrayal. |

Good shout! I used to love seeing Clouseau at the cinema, very rarely to hear the whole place laughing now. |

"Father Brown.
Whatever's happened to the the sleuthing parochial vicar of yore?"
He is alive and well, solving crimes yesterday morning on radio 4 extra, exposing the culprit of the silver cutlery disappearance. |

Nice Poirot reference in the title there OP!
I’m a big fan of both the Cormoran Strike books and the Will Trent ones, by Robert Galbraith (JK Rowling), and Karin Slaughter respectively, but also the Jackson Brodie books by Kate Atkinson |

It’s always good to see a Poirot reference
Miss Marple played by Joan Hickson, Jackson Lamb played by Gary Oldman, and Jeremy Brett’s Sherlock Holmes manage to be even better than the books.
Special mention to Philip Marlowe by Raymond Chandler for being a superb example of the gritty detective type of pulp fiction.
Who do you like, OP? |

I liked what Steve Martin did with 'Dead men don't wear plaid', but maybe more for the movie than that character. I do enjoy a comedy with an investigative theme, so would add Bob Hoskins in 'Who framed Roger Rabbit', Ryan Gosling in 'the Nice Guys' and Chevvy Chase in 'Fletch' (yeah yeah, he's a journalist, but an investigative one!) |
