Favourite whisky?

I'm quite a connoisseur on most things alchohol as some may guess, whiskey is not one really, always found I prefer Irish more than scotch, Bushmills blackbush being my favourite.
However, I also recently went to Scotland and found myself sampling them... I have to say, fully on board now and loved this one called glendronarch, 12 year. So smooth and not too peaty, which I think I get put off with some of the Highland whiskeys |

Years ago I was given a very special bottle of Bladnoch (Lowlands Malt) from a client who was a personal friend of the owner. It was absolutely stupendous.
I've since sampled their 8yr old - but it came nowhere near.
For an everyday malt, I really like Ben Bracken Speyside @ just £18 from Lidl. |

"I much prefer bourbon to whiskey, but do love Penderyn."
Tried that for the first time a couple of years ago. Always buy a nice single malt for Christmas. This year I went with an Australian one called Starward Left Field. Glenmorangie is my favourite Scottish one.

"Tamnavulin double cask is very drinkable.
Or if you want something different...Sheepdog peanut butter whisky. " I've had that didn't like it on its own, think it was good with choc milk or liquor been a good while |

Bells.
Lol.
I'm not much of a whiskey expert.
Got a few nice bottles but doubt I could taste the difference if they were given to me in a glass.
Hats off to you all that can name the whisky from a glass.

If you like Sheepdog try and find it's far superior American brother Skrewball - SO much nicer. Not easy to find in the UK though |

"Southern comfort
I love this drink. I’m not sure it’s whiskey though is it?"
It's a liqueur, more sickly and not as strong as normal whiskies. It's only a step up from the stuff you used to find in Netto (remember them?) and bought because it's cheap.
Each to their own, of course! |

"I’m sure I’ll be lambasted for this but I prefer Irish whiskey 🥃 "
Poitín? That'll put hairs on your chest and then burn them off again.
The Irish have been making Aqua Vitae since 1000AD, I think it's fair to say they may have developed some expertise.
That being said, I prefer Bourbon. |

"Smokehead an Islay single."
Yep, that one ("Unfiltered") is a quantum leap over the original, which was looked upon as cheap scotch with a load of smoke flavour dumped in to cover up the taste.
Using a single Islay for the new one, along with an even hand on the smoke, has made a seriously nice whiskey. |

"Macallan for me. Can’t be dealing with those really oaky peaty smoky kinds
Same here.
At last people with taste.
I'd go for a 15yo sherry cask."
Macallan isn’t what it used to be sadly
Many more cheaper bottles that are better
Love glenfarclas 18.
Smokey then springbank if you can get a bottle if not then benromach 15 won’t break the bank
All of the glendronach the 18 is a Sherry bomb
And some great independent bottlings of a good linkwood |

Bunnahabhain - any but the older ones are so incredibly super smooth
A fabulous Islay without the intense peat, smoke or iodine.
Also Mortlach
Have a browse through the Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible for some inspiration.
Enjoy!

It's a whiskey liqueur. Popular with red lemonade in Ireland |

Benriach smoky 10,
I'm partial to the peat of Islay and lagavulins distillery edition is a delight but the Benriach was a real surprise offering for me and it was phenomenal.
That said, ask me in a week and I'm sure I'll have a different answer |
