I had to help a neighbour repair a dry stone wall today after a tree landed on it last night. Does that count?

Yes, and there’s nothing stopping any of those putting out a shout to there fellow workers, just like the OP has, is there.

Why so bitter to someone getting in touch with others? Very sad

Yeah and most of those will get days off even if they have worked over Christmas. If you're on a small family farm you can't just get bank staff or temps to cover shifts.

Considering, farmers have a higher rate of suicide than the general population, I find your tone not particularly nice.

Hopefully if you were working yesterday you have some time off soon.

To all the farmers out there, who were milking 5 o clock this morning, thank you for my morning cuppa be lost without you.

Thing is not all Doctors, Nurses and Power Workers are working on Christmas Day

But you can guarantee a farmer with his own farm will be ... nobody covers them on Christmas Day

Exactly true. Everybody who hasnt a clue about food and farming always throws out that comment about doctors and nurses, but the truth is doctors and nurses would be nowhere with out farmers and truckers. They are thee original key workers, always have been always will be. The oldest businesses in the world are farming businesses (other than that other business!) for obvious reason. Doctors and nurses aren't needed by everybody every day, but they need a farmer to have done their work every single day 3 times .. it's all a question of timings and seasonality of course but that doctors nurses statement is typical of the lack of understanding of what it takes to produce the very thing that makes everybody.

During the first day of the first lockdown all I saw at all on the road was tractors.

The suicide rate among my farming friends is disgusting. How many folk can say they've been at 6 funerals of folk they knew fairly well by the time they were 40, all suicides on farms. This is the price farming families pay so people can have cheap food. Many other variables in there of course but that is the facts of it. This latest tax will escalate this horrible statistic because it gets to the very heart of what it is to be a farmer. It's an abhorrent disgusting socialist tax of the worst kind that should be abolished right across the board. The industry will not take it lying down.

not enough people hearing this the farming community really needs the publics support now more than ever, far to high a suicide rate that should be 0
