Does any one agree with this.

these days there seems to be a lot more kids getting knocked down by cars etc.we feel years ago when we were kids you could go out all day and play football in parks,or play games on the streets etc.these days we feel you protect your kids more because of the paedo element of society, therefore it means your kids arnt as streetwise with the roads like we all used to be.would love to hear others views

Totally agree we have four kids and have been maybe too overprotective as they would say

I used to live in a small village and would be gone all day just come home when it was tea time

I would not let mine do that now unless I knew exactly who they are with where there are going and get them to phone me aswell

Overprotective mum

Lot of truth in that....

"Overprotection" is robbing children of a lot of the street / life smarts which previous generations had...

I used to play out at my lil uns age and no way would i let her out of the back garden alone now.

I guess with the roads not every home owned a car you didn't have the traffic when we were little that you have now,as now most house holds own 2 cars everyone drives to the schools and such.

And as for the sex offenders and such i think they have always been there but not as publicised you didn't get told about it like we do now.

Simply, there are a lot more cars nowadays. Most households are two car families, and three isn't unusual.

A lot of kids seem to be able to afford them somehow, despite insurance, car tax and fuel prices!

A combination of kids being molly coddled and parents bring afraid to let their kids have the freedom to play outside also doesn't help .....
