I have heard and seen the word community used in regard to swinging
What does this word actually mean or is it a dog ear dog world (no actual dogs being eaten) of trying to gain attention for the hope of sexual gratification |

I see swinging as a community, I attended a lot of clubs previously and made some great lifelong friends. Yeah, we're all filthy fuckers most of the time, but we look out for eachother and the friends I've made are all special, we have a great connection and I would genuinely consider them to be close. Of course, there are people that don't want that, and thats okay! For me personally, I love connecting with people on a deeper level and the sex is just better  |

Most of the time when people refer to the "swinging community" they're either thinking of a specific community of swingers (e.g. the people who circle their local meetups, local events, local clubs, etc) or something more nebulous but still shared (identity, norms, common texts, etc).
I don't think swinging really has all that much of the latter, in the same way e.g. the BDSM community does; it's a lot more about the former imo. |

^^ I agree I see no evidence if community. I see isolated incidents of behaviour that is also typical of good communities but in general the majority don't really care much about other people who swing. |

That shared interest is subverted by self interest.
I’ve see this word bandied about in other areas ..and the reality is always the same. Community until the moment people aren’t getting their self interest served. Then it’s not community it’s people in the way.

I have friends who swing, I have people I fuck. I know some who play with others I know. That's about as far as the swinging community goes. I would like to see swingers marching on Parliament to support "free love", but I don't see that happening. Too many problems created coming out. |

Shared interest absolutely. But that’s not a community. Like minded, empathetic to one another perhaps. But not a group of people who will close ranks and identify as a community. |

My only experience of swinging is through fab and like many people on here I don't class myself as a swinger so therefore I fall outside of whatever community exists.
Like most communities there are those who enjoy sitting at the top table but have no interest in any input from those not at their table.
There are those who complain about how the community is organised or in many cases disorganised but aren't willing to step up.
My personal experience is that it's difficult to have a community when for so many members it's all about self interest and fab as a whole is much more of a sharing community than a caring community. |
