I haven't for a long while. Largely because there hasn't been a sufficient time window since having more ink done. 🤷‍♂️

PS. I commend anyone who can give blood to do so.

At the start of October I had an emergency op that required a transfusion. Without the generosity of donors that, possibly, couldn't have happened.

Without a transfusion, I might not still be here.

I used to take the piss out of my parents, who were hit with a lifetime ban because they lived in the UK for more than six months in the 80s.

First time I tried to give blood in the UK, I got slapped with a lifetime ban (because of a disability) 🤣

Diagonally Parked in a Parallel Universe

Three months after receiving my Gold Award for making 50 donations, I had a bit of a medical episode which led to me having to receive four units of blood, so sadly am now unable to donate. That was almost 7 years ago, and if I could keep donating, I would have made 70 donations by now.

I did it for the first time recently. I had to sit around for ages to see the Sister because I’ve been to Afghanistan but it just meant they have to test my blood for malaria - even though it was ages ago.

I just made the amount in the maximum time! My blood flows slowly it seems 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’ve booked again for February.

Absolutely I donate, it’s a chance to do something small which can save a life and then when I die, they can take whatever they want if it helps somebody to live or live a better life.

Not religious at all, but just in case there is a god or an afterlife, I figure that I’ll get the bits I need back then in return for the good deed

I find it strange that if you are gay and had sex in the past 6 months you can’t donate

If you are straight and had sex in the past 6 months it’s fine

How does that work?

Anal sex. I think they ask if you've had unprotected anal sex in the last 3 months. I'm not sure but I think it's to protect blood recipients from contracting deadly diseases from donated blood.

It's any anal sex protected/unprotected in the last 3 months with a new partner

An established partner of over 3 months is ok

Anal is considered higher risk and it can take 3 months for any infection markers to show in the blood

Not true, there's been rule changes and not everyone is up to date with them all.

From the nhs blood and transplant website

"Gay and bisexual men are not automatically prevented from giving blood.

Men who have sex with men and who have had the same partner for 3 months or more and meet our other eligibility criteria are able to give blood.

Anyone who has had anal sex with a new partner or multiple partners in the last three months, regardless of their gender or their partner’s gender, must wait 3 months before donating."

I have in the past, a few times. However my problem is (and know its not a great excuse) convenience. When I used to give blood was in the Forces. They'd just come to camp. I would just pop out of work for an hour and take a short walk over. Nice and easy when it's just there and super convenient. However I'm busy these days and I'd have to go out my way to give blood. So it's the lack of convince which stops me now. Which I know is poor that I don't go out of my way to do it considering how important it is but that's how it is for me. Put it on my doorstep again and I'd happy give blood.

I used to donate on a fairly regular basis when I would remember to go.

I last attempted to a few months back before starting my sleeve in earnest, but I won't be going for a while until it's all done and dusted.

I want to give though because I know it's a good thing, but mainly because it makes me feel better about myself. Selfish I know, but thems the breaks.

"Mr here I use ti give it but as i am on blood pressure tablets I am no longer allowed to give blood "

If you've been on the same dose for a while, you're well on the meds and your blood pressure is under control, it shouldn't stop you

"Are gay and bi men allowed to give blood now. At one time they wernt."

Not if you're having anal sex with a new or multiple partners

If you're with an established partner of 3 months or more you should be accepted

Provided other things don't rule you out

I literally not allowed to. I've had meningitis B and once you've had that you're barred from giving any blood or even donor kidneys etc.

Thats good thankyou. Ive never had anal sex with a man but have oral and always thought that stopped me from giving blood.

Used to, but no longer allowed (cancer, even though I'm all clear now). It's such an easy thing to do. If you are considering it, go for it

I've been giving blood/platelets for a while but have been advised I can no longer which is gutting really as wasn't far off 100 donations, my wife gives blood and when we had dogs my dogs did too. It's the perfect way of helping people (and other dogs of cause) I believe.

your vets will have details, as dogs need blood too some times they have to be bigger dogs I can't remember the weight ours had to be over to donate
