I’ve been thinking and that in itself is dangerous!
When someone posts something, however daft or stupid or difference of your opinion to yourself what does making it personal or in some ways attacking of them prove?
Now, totally understanding there are somethings that politically or whatever disagree with you and you feel need to be called out but I’m referring to the more petty and personal attacks on people
On some occasions it leads the OP to go UNLOS, so the effect you have had on them is potentially huge
Isn’t it easier sometimes just to move on, ignore rather than, on some occasions, gang up on someone? |

Some people do it for fun. Or they just spend so much time here that they've forgotten it's not their living room.
You only have to look at the flippant and irrelevant remarks new posters, particularly men, get when they have questions or want to say something that's not on the approved list of acceptable topics. Followed by the inevitable off topic derailing of the thread. |

I think people take a dislike to others and can't help making it known.
Some people are purely horrible creatures and that comes from their brains, through their fingers and onto the page.
Being on here really opened my eyes as to how awful people can be.
I don't know what they get from it though? A feeling of satisfaction? Ego boost? Empowerment? |

I noticed, quite quickly, when I first started using the forums how single, not popular men were treated. Usually by the same group of people. It's why 'clique' became a thing. |

If people just ignored, only responding to rainbows and unicorn threads, it'd not only be a fake picture of reality but I think we'd all bore of it fairly quickly. Happiness in anything isn't a forever level field, you need to express dissatisfaction to realise a brighter side. |

To answer op I think it depends on the person. I’ve no time for xenophobia, bigots, racists and the like. That needs calling out. For the little things, I just block and move on knowing they’ll never land in my inbox |

But, you can have a differing opinion and not resort to ad hominem responses. If it were allowed it would be carnage and not enjoyable for most of us on here. |

The forums are means to be fun not somewhere to settle world views. If people can take jokes, they can take the pokes, but when someone is that intent on raising an issue that is too far fetched, reasoning doesn't cut it and the opinion of the crowd often does. Not that I'm saying it's right. |
