Yesterday Tory leader Kemi Badenoch claimed that sandwiches weren't real food but PM Keir Starmer disagreed and said they were a British tradition...
Who do you agree with?
If you were going to impress a date with a sandwich what would you make them?...

A sandwich can contain cheese, meat, egg, tuna, salad etc. Surely this is real food which could easily sustain a child |

Ash! 🥰 It's a little festive gift.
Of course sandwiches are a real food. I wouldn't say they're dinner but they're definitely food.
If I wanted to impress my date... oh! I'd do a sourdough ciabatta roll filled with medium rare steak, mushrooms, homemade chimichurri and some shoestring fries (also homemade). And some kind of side salad. Lambs lettuce, cherry tomatoes, shredded carrots... that kind of thing.
If they're vegan/veggie/not feeling meat, roasted butternut squash so it's deliciously cara_elised instead of the steak. |

Mmmmm a warming porridge sandwich before work, I’ll try that.
I love sandwiches but wanted my children to sit and chat at the table before and after school and sandwiches were often taken away to consume.

Glad to see those in charge debating the real issues.
I would mix it up a bit and make them a toast pizza, tomato purée with olive oil and oregano base on lightly toasted thick white slice topped with fine chopped onions, green pepper, mushrooms & chilies, roast chicken finished with cheddar and mozzarella and an extra drizzle of extra-virgin olive oil

That goes for every single type of food imaginable - if they were given nothing but caviar and lobster that wouldn't count as real food either.
I reckon you could hit more of your dietary needs with a range of sandwich fillings than the majority of other lunch options. |

Sandwiches are real food, but I have a feeling that we're missing context.
Is this something to do with processing? If you're looking at a sandwich from the context of processing, then it's not "real" food because the definition of "real" is "taken off a tree or plant without being processed ".
I suppose it depends on context. |

Maybe she meant to say they aren't a substantial meal for someone eat when they have a hard day's work or school to do?
I've seen sandwiches stuffed with meat, eggs, cabbage, carrots that I'd struggle to eat in one sitting . |

I can't get a doctors appointment, my train is always late, my mum is always complaining she needs a food bank as they've stopped her winter fuel allowance (she doesn't need one) all of that I can cope with but don't Start messing with the British delicasy that is the sandwich! |

I was coming to this thread to say this. With so much in the country that needs sorting out, they're politicising sandwiches! Politics truly is the entertainment division of the military/industrial complex. |
