At what age would you personally class a female as an ‘older woman’

And similarly, an ‘older man’ ?

I first got called an older woman at 30...

I'm more accepting it of it now, as I am indeed older, still not really keen on the use of it though.

OP, I would like to think there is no upper age limit. As long as all your cogs, wheels, springs and pulleys are working within the confines of your Fab swinging body then it's all good.

Once upon a time there used to be someone on here called Mïdnïght. She was a septuagenarian enjoying the twilight of her swinging. Now the only person left - a sexagenarian - is Nora. She would be best to answer this. 🩷

Considering that I first discovered, "swinging" with all it's differing traits and tastes at the early age of eighteen, "Swinging dinosaur" might describe me.

Well judging by the majority of single females and couples who seem to have no interest in any guys over 45 here in Essex. I'm in my 50s so I'm definitely older 😪

We are in the later part of our 50’s and are starting to feel that we are classed as older especially now we are getting less successful meets and more cancelled at short notice. Still we have had many fun years and hope a few more fun meets before we finally call it a day

Well the good news to anyone ‘feeling’ older (moreso for men) is this:

For men: “…research suggests you might experience a decline in regular sexual activity between the ages of 75 and 80 years old but that doesn't mean you'll stop having sex altogether.”

For women: “…women stoppping having sex varies widely, but some begin to notice a gradual decrease beginning at the onset of menopause in their early 50’s” but… “Half of women in their 50s report continued sexual activity. This percentage declines to 27% in women in their 70s.”

So women draw the short straw with a degree of some significance

Mixture of resources there btw. From Harvard, Johns Hopkins university, and a consortium forum of men’s sexual health medical professions

i would never class a woman as older unless they are over 80.

"About 55 I reckon"

I'd go with this.

I'd classify "old" age as the final thirdy-quarter of life expectancy.

In 1930 (averaging male and female) UK life expectancy was 60, so old age started around 40-45 (doesn't 40 seem stupidly young now? But look at the life expectancy....only 60 years).

In 1980, average UK life expectancy was 73, so old age started around 49-54.

In 2020, average UK life expectancy was 80, so old age starts 54-60.

I think we need to shake off the negativity surrounding the word 'old' and 'older'. Stop using the word 'still' to preface the things we're doing and the suffix 'for your age' after compliments.

I'm hurtling at break neck speed towards 70. Of course I'm darn well old.

Plus, what's the life expectancy for a current 60 year old when they reach "2020s 80 year expectancy in 2045"?

It's halted/slowed/gone back a bit in recent years, but I'd expect a current 60 year old to "average" 80-85.

In which case, you can argue old age starts for those currently 56-64.

And "being old" rather than "entering old age"....what's that?

65+...???

In 1930, I'd say "being old" was around 50.
