We keep being told that people have no need to be on benefits as there are loads of jobs around. But I just read a news report about 4,300 people applying for just 150 jobs at a Tesco due to open in Hampshire, and this is not the first of such reports I have read recently. |

A lot of the jobs on offer are either part time - which means people still need benefits, or minimum wage which no one can live on! |

This just reminded me of something I saw the other day
'20 years ago, we had Johnny Cash, Bob Hope and Steve Jobs.
Now we have no cash, no hope and no jobs,
Please do not let Kevin Bacon die'
Valid point though |

It's all old news but the government refuses to see the truth. Like you say; 150 jobs. Wow that is a lot for a Tesco but not for a town, especially with thousands applying for the same job.
That should make you wonder how many unemployed people DIDNT apply for it because they need better pay etc.
The government actually takes the statistics from people refused benefits or kicked off them to imply that those who arent earning benefits are actually in work, so its also a false statistic when they consider that two thirds of the country are employed and one third isn't. Of course you have to take children and pensioners into account also but they don't know what they're doing and their research is fixed, so dont believe it! |

My friend totted up the amount of jobs he's applied for in the last 6 months - it came to 453, so far he's been offered 1 interview. He didn't get the job. He's being threatened by the job centre regarding benefits but can't see what else he can do. He can't even get a cleaning job for minimum wage.
When I was a recruitment manager we had 300+ applications for just 2 basic admin posts. The year previously we would have been lucky to have had 50 applications for the same 2 jobs. In today's economytThe odds are so stacked against you. |

It's a government driven myth that there are up to half a million job vacancies at any given time, when Next opened a store in Newton Abbot last year they advertised 54 jobs and had well over a Thousand applicants.

In the main they will be part time....probably all but Two or Three positions will be 20 hours or under. |

I think there are 23 job seekers for every job vacancy, even I can see that menas 22 people each time will be disappointed.
Its in the governments interests for people to believe that unemployment is down to laziness it keeps the electorate from asking awkward questions.

I should imagine they are mainly women who are working around their children's school hours....or should we ban women from going back to work and supplementing the family income?
I for one am happy to see so many 'housewives' and mothers have been released from the shackles of 1960's views on women working. |

this is not the only problem to gain employment ... there is also the difficulty the government has caused with all the certification you now need to get a job .... for example ... in 1977, i passed my test to drive a bus, which i happily did for many years.
in 2007, i decided on a career change so no more bus driving.... i have now had to (reluctantly) go back into the industry, but, 36 years of driving people & kids around now seems to count for nothing ... i have to apply for crb, cpc, etc. etc .... you even need a certificate to work on a building site as a labourer.
my point is this..... how do the unemployed find the cash to do all these courses to obtain these nonsensical certificates which you need to obtain employment and quite often have to pay for yourself? |

Can you not claim it back from the job centre, if its a requirement of your employment ??? |

i really dont know the answer to that ... but even if you can ... you probably have to pay it before you can claim it back .... but i do understand they will not pay for a CRB check |

I'm quite pleased that the bus driver who takes my kids to school has been CRB'd. |

Think most people would be.
Surely they cant expect those struggling on benefits to pay out first.
If they can re-emburse it afterwards then why not just pay up front ??
Unless its if you fail they save the money, but that would be just me thinking they are tight gits. |

I understand minimum wage jobs never attract a lot of applicants - but playing devils advocate I've just done some maths in my head!
Current JSA for over 24's is £71.20 a week. Given an average working week of 35 hrs - surely earning £6.31 an hour has to be a better option than 'not earning' £2 an hour for 6 mths on JSA?
If you're single, living at home with mum and dad and have no kids - which lets face it - there's a fair few in those circumstances - should a minimum wage job not be better than sitting on your arse ? |

My partner Morrigan has been in full time education since high school but that is ending soon so last week she started applying for jobs, I guess shes lucky as she applied for 3 got a call for an interview today from one and was given the job. However none of these jobs were advertised at the Job centre and the interviewer said today that they would not entertain putting a job in there due to the type of people they have apply! |

But if you have two thousand people going for fiftey vacancies surely the company shouldn't be obliged to pay for all if them , only the successful applicants. |

Look at job vacancies from another angle.
Last week, I'd an employee leave from my department, so an advert was placed in the trade press last Tuesday, which cascaded into sites such as Indeed and Jobrapido.
By Thursday alone, we'd already had some 20 applicants of which 10 were very good for following up. Attempts were made but only 2 could be contacted; of the remaining 8, messages were left for them to contact us. We're still waiting!!
Of the two we did speak to, one failed to show up. The other I interviewed today; made redundant from the Army last November, he's made over 450 job applications since, with less than 2% responses.
He'd two interviews with me and my HR Manager; we're taking him on, and he starts next week! |

Job Centres are a joke. I see them like the Ministries in 1984 - The Ministry of Truth being all about lying and deceiving the public. So the Job Centre does not really do much to get people into real, meaningful work. Just 'McJobs'. |

Whilst it is good to see "housewives" and mothers working, it should be through choice not necessity. You only have to go back as far as the seventies and many mens wages were enough to support a family with his wife staying at home. Now if you both don't work, you can't make ends meet. Employers and the government(s) would have you believe it is all down to equality. It's all down to screwing the workers as far as they can. |

In my experience the job centre would not fund ANY useful courses. I asked about redoing my FLT or confined space training. They did not want to know, but these are the ones that employers are demanding that you have. They would not even reemburse me for petrol, when I went down to Basingstoke for an interview, all the way from Bolton. It was cheaper than the train but despite filling all the forms in, I never got a penny. This was despite the fact that my JSA had ceased about 6 months previously .

A LOT of the jobs that you see advertised are replicated from one site to another, and a LOT of those don't actually exist. I applied for countless ones with employment agencies and headhunters that came to nothing, then a few weeks later, the SAME job is readvertised. It is a con, to get you onto their books. |

Peoples aspirations have changed since the Seventies though, families want more out of life.
The days when they would be satisfied with earning just enough to live and have the occasional treat have long gone for many people.
I know of several women who work part time now their children are old enough, so that they can have holidays and a better standard of living overall.
It's one reason (not the only reason) why many women supplement the husbands wage in the household, it's often out of pure necessity....but not always. |

They must have been wanting to reimburse me by putting it in WITH my next JSA payment. But as I wasn't getting that, I could not have the petrol money. Nobody said it had to make sense. It IS the government after all. |

The job centre will pay for a course/ticket but only if you manage to get an employer to write to the job centre stating that they guarantee to employ you if you have said ticket. This means waiting for the job centre to sort the funding for the course/ticket, waiting for the prospective employee to have said course and not taking on any other prospective employee that comes along who already has said ticket and appropriate skills. Needless to say, its really hard to get such a letter to get a course paid for by the job centre. |

"I understand minimum wage jobs never attract a lot of applicants - but playing devils advocate I've just done some maths in my head!

But they are not exactly minimum wage. They are minimum hourly rate and you can only get twenty hours, when THEY want you. That's if you can get the job. If you have anything about you, they will not take you on. Your either over qualified, too old, they think you will jump ship asap, or cause trouble by standing up for your rights and cause subordination in the ranks. |

There are loads of jobs out there, just look online at all job websites. The thing is due to the amount of of peope out of work, companies can pick and choose who they want.

A LOT of those jobs don't exist. They are faked in order for you to give all your details to the employment agencies that you have to go through. When all is said and done there is not enough jobs for the people of working age. And the situation has been getting worse since the eighties. How many times has the method for calculating "the unmeployed" changed? The criteria to fit that description is getting tighter and tighter. |

"We keep being told that people have no need to be on benefits as there are loads of jobs around. But I just read a news report about 4,300 people applying for just 150 jobs at a Tesco due to open in Hampshire, and this is not the first of such reports I have read recently.
Of course you have to take children and pensioners into account also but they don't know what they're doing and their research is fixed, so dont believe it!"
The phrase 'Lies, damned lies and statistics' springs to mind.
The government makes the figures say what they want them to say, and b*ll*cks to the truth of the matter. And that goes across the board, no matter what the issue...they just keep feeding us bullshit and hoping we'll keep quiet about their salaries, holidays, expenses, scandals, criminality, etc, the list goes on...
If I suddenly disappear, please make sure that the government department that investigated David Kelly's death isn't allowed anywhere near...lol... Rich |

Who knows |
There are jobs out there however they are not advertised in the Chav clearing house aka Job Centres, most are by word of mouth / old pals act / specific forums.
Last time I used a job centre was 1986 and have changed jobs / employers/ careers constantly since then. and even then then job centre staff treated you like muppets |

I don't want to agree but I do. There is a fair amount of jobs out there. Having recently rejoined the world of the employed, I found myself taking jobs that made me miserable. Why? Because it was a job and it meant I was earning while still looking for something that was more suitable. I don find that some people turn up their nose at certain jobs and then moan that they can't find one after turning so many down. |

i cant agree. the only job i can find is my current one which is a paye which isnt exactly employment.
if there were jobs i would be in a proper one by now. there are none.
as for promotion and skilled work its a case of 'who you know' or 'who you blow' rather than just doing a course and putting it on your cv, sending it to an employer and awaiting a reply.
if you go in through the front door your more likely to be spammed in your inbox and waste a load of time filling in online forms. only to be appended to a database of millions of applicants.
sorry but thats how things are. |

i agree. the jobs dont really exist. the jobs are either fake or already taken intnerally. they have to advertise publically by law but its all BS.
the jobs arent real. get over it. find another socially disadvantaged group to look down on |

i agree. i wish it werent true.
its who you know and/or who you blow.
work is more about being a good team player (ie: friend/escort) rather than actual work.
you'll get the occasional token 'ugly' on the team but most decent jobs are taken up by the most fertile fuckable human beings on the planet lol
sorry but its true
i still have dignity but im running out of sanity!!! |

I'm starting a new job this week. I saw it advertised on the companies facebook page of all places. I messaged through Facebook, got an answer straight away and an interview an hour later and told I had the job the next day. I have to say it was easier than I expected it to be, especially as after 15 years of being self employed I had no references or CV.
Saying that though it's not all good news. I can't afford to live on the wage and will have to find a second job to supplement it. Plus the job is only until October...it's going to be a cold, hungry Christmas. |

If a PLC filed it's company reports using the same numbers massaging as the government do, there would be lots more director's in prison for fraud |

They are not fake, they are real, but the comnpany has already filled the position but has to advertise it anyway. |

They are fake, because the same jobs with vague descriptions and no mention EVER of who it is with, come up again and again. You can set your watch by them. It's phishing. |
