Mrs has a pixel and it's great apart from what appears to be a total scam, very limited storage capacity she constantly has to delete stuff but keeps getting messages about storage full.
They ask you to pay extra for additional storage.

"I have one. Turn off the back up photos option. The storage it's talking about is for Google drive I've turned mine off and have no problem saving to my phone 😃"
Thank you, is this in phone settings or Google settings? |

"What on earth is she keeping on there 👀 I have 256GB of storage and I hardly fill half of that - and I'm pretty prolific at taking pictures and videos."
You beat me to it. Check the storage and see what's taking up the most space - mine's only ever been about half full. |

If you go to the photo gallery then click on your profile icon in the corner then turn off back up |

No problem! I've had mine around 2 months now and took me a while to figure out 😂 |

For those of you who are turning •off• the Google Photos backup option you are introducing a single point of failure.
If you lose your phone then any photos/videos taken after turning off the backup will not be recoverable other than those taken previously. Older photos will remain on Google Photos, i.e. 'the cloud', or Google Drive for you to recover from (synchronisation) when you replace your phone.
Your options are to either do some housekeeping - delete unwanted images (screenshots etc, videos), or purchase additional Google Photos 'cloud' storage — starting at 100Gb up to 2Tb.
Every Google account comes with 15Gb of free online storage shared across Gmail, Google Drive and Google Photos. 15Gb isn't much in this day and age but it's more than the 5Gb that Apple give you for iCloud before you have to pay for additional storage per month.
[**If you have a Google Pixel 5 phone, or earlier, you receive unlimited storage for photos and videos backed up from your device at no charge] |

Many of the Pixels come in 128Gb and 256Gb size versions. I struggle to fill 128 and delete unnecessary stuff. I assume that you could backup to anywhere, if you didn't want it to be at Google.
The latest Android update this week is good - it lets you limit battery charging to 80% as an option, to help to preserve the integrity of your battery. More recent Pixels should be able to get this |
