How does one address a TV/CD

I'm not au fait with the correct terminology so forgive me if I'm wrong.

Just now a bloke dressed as a women flagged me down. He was distressed as he had just suffered some verbal abuse. I'd like to think he left my cab in a happier mood and I think I cheered him up with some jolly banter.

So here is my question. As is the norm for me I kept calling him mate.

Halfway through the journey he asked me not to call him mate as he didn't like it. To be honest I struggled after that but as he payed me I said thanks sweety which brought a smile to his face.

So how do I address a TV/CD ?

I think there isn't a blanket answer as each to their own however I always address them as a female unless they express otherwise.

No! I stand by what I said and not all tv's/cd's want that so individual preference which you will only get by asking.

"Crocodile Dundee had the best approach for addressing them. "

I may get a better tip if I took that approach.
