One of my best friends is a spiritualist

I have to tell him to keep his cakehole shut half the time cos he scares me to death with some of the stuff he comes out with, spookily accurate.

He doesn't do commercial stuff, more church based with the odd private reading.

I went to her show in Edinburgh last year,,, after i had watched and loved many of her television programmes I came away with mixed feelings if I'm honest,,, I suppose it all depends who is in the audience on the night ,,,, I thought it was very flat ,,, not watched one of her shows since then

Ahhh see I have this problem with people who do this

I believe firmly that if the people who had passed away wanted to get into contact with us they wouldn't do it with someone who was making a mint out of it !!

Ive lots of bad things about them and wouldn't entertain going to a show

I would go to a spiritual church

I was an Uber-Sceptic until I was 'told' to go to see a lady called Ann who came highly recommended, when I was at a very low point when me and the ex were in the death throes of our 'relationship'.

Shocked me to the core, but I came out of there with a big smile on my face.

And more than half of what she predicted has proved to be correct... including meeting Ruby....

I think it would amuse me.. if she comes up with a Constance Beryl or an Iris May Nott I think I would wet myself laughing to be honest.

All my family are OLD ladies and gents if they came back to say hi I would be thrilled.

Does anyone here know a lady with blonde hair? She's holding a handbag with a purse in it and has a shoe on each foot.

She tends to get tired at the end of the day and sleeps in a bed but wants you to know that you are not to worry about the money it'll come from somewhere and it'll all be okay in the end.

( if she can say all that why doesn't she just say her fooking name and the name of the person she wants to speak to?)

If it's the woman who's on telly, I'm not sure - I have reservations.

I did have to laugh in one of the programmes though when she was holding a photo of an elderly person and said a name was coming through. She asked the family if that was 'this gentleman's' name. It was a photo of their nan lol

I think when we've lost loved ones, we want there to be 'something else'. I'm not saying it's hogwash but I do think we may read into messages, seeing more relevance than there is because we're seeking comfort.

That said, there's no harm in you going along with an open mind. Who knows what might happen?

Derren Brown did a good show on this a few years ago which tried to show (albeit biased towards not believing) how they cold read, and how people hear what they want to hear rather than what the guy is actually saying.

I think this illustrates how I feel about it all. The genuine people don't do it commercially. My mother was stopped in the street by a woman one day who just said "you're in pain aren't you?" mum (shocked) said yes she was and the woman placed her hands on her stomach where the pain was and it went away

What they do and how they get information is another thread altogether.

Personally, I think all psychics are a bunch of charlatan fraudsters who prey on the vulnerable, sad and naive, usually for financial gain and often to make themselves appear somewhat special to others.

This is achieved by peddling them vague statements of no substance that the victim infers meaning into, classic cold reading techniques or by simply regurgitating information they have previously discovered and pretending it was passed on by an ethereal form.

You'd get just as much sense asking your toaster for a reading and if you put a slice of bread in and switch it on, you'll get an equal amount of valuable spiritual advice, plus a slice of toast.

I totally disagree with this...

I wasn't vulnerable, weak, grieving, nor am i sad or naive!!

The two readings i had with Sally Morgan i didnt exchange no monies at all. i did to see Derek Accora though!!

I can definitely say, no cold reading were got from me. In fact my body language was nil as were my vocal responses.

I do think there are some ppl out there that prey on ppl's emotional state. But not just in the spiritual sense but in all aspects of life....

Ditto, I felt that it just showed that the televised shows are very edited. She gave many names that no one in the audience knew. It was very very disappointing.

On her programme, I thought the bit where a (minor) celeb visited her was the most pointless exercise of all. Assuming she knew they were coming, it would be simplicity itself to google them and get a stack of information which could then be passed on as a message from 'the other side'.

Yes go. Me and a mate went to see Sally in Southampton. No msg for me or my mate but plenty for different audience members, some quite sad and one quite shocking and judging by person in audience not a con or a fake story told. Ive seen Derek Acorah too and also had a private reading from a local psychic, who told me things only me and my family would know. go with open mind and enjoy yourself.

I'm sorry but I'm in the "load of shit" category! Under scientific testing none of them have been able to demonstrate shit!!!

What they're great at is indentifying responses from people. Subtle shifts in the body, facial expression etc. people get caught up in the show. As for contacting dead relatives personally I think your desire to believe overwhelms your skepticism. Saying all that I'm only going on what Santa and the tooth fairy have told me!

I have a lot of inside knowledge of this kinda thing. Not going to say too much. I am not nor claim to be psychic. I do work in a closely related industry ( think Derren Brown). I can confidently say Sally and Derek A are both complete fakers are all of the well known psychics. The Spiritualist churches are full of kind but self-deluded people that believe what they have is a gift. It's not. Trust me I know. People think names I get them, people think PIN numbers, I know them, people draw pictures, I duplicate them. It's all fakery. Don't waste your time and money on psychics. If you are grieving get professional help.

Absolutely!

I think they (sally shitface etc) should be prosecuted for preying on people's insecurities and grief! Bloodsucking bastards who know they aren't psychics! I also agree that spiritualist churches etc are well meaning but misguided.

I love going to them, and i have had contact with some who only know certain things about me and my home. So when they pin point a direct object that the psychic knows nothing about and you haven't even chatted to her/him it can be quite mind blowing.

I would not use this way for grieving but for some it does give peace of mind !!

Not pointed at anyone at all actually, just telling it like it is. People in this industry employ some incredibly devious techniques that would blow you away. I've been in a related area for many years and still learning some incredible methods to Devine thoughts and names etc. fascinating but ultimately fake.

You make the associations, and the reader just plays them back to you. it stems from a subconscious desire for a successfully reading or whatever. You tend to remember and magnify only the hits - cognitive bias.

Its humbug until you have had genuine experience. Yrs ago seeing a woman and went to a psychic evening bear in mind i was from different part of country. There were two psychics on the night and whilst thinking some may be real a lot are fakes.

The eldest of the two came to our table and started struggling forcbreath i honestly thought she was dying she then went on to say my mum was there and described in great detail her appearance and what she died from. I was shocked but not scared and also amazed.

About nine month later i went for private meet at her place and she then went on about my dad and the stuff she told me which was all recorded was beyond accurate and no one else bar me and my dad knew about.

I can understand folk being sceptics but this was real.

It may well be real, who's to say but if people could really speak to the dead it would change the whole of mankind and how society is structured. Why don't psychics ask murdered people who murdered them - think how many crimes would be solved with a lead like that. Why don't psychics ask desk scientists, mathematicians and musician etc about unfinished work. Why isn't there a psychic in every hospital picking up on patients ailments.

If you had the same ability as a psychic would you work on a cheap daytime TV show telling people about their loved ones, SERIOUSLY. No you'd either be a reclusive billionaire or working closely with the government in intelligence.

A genuine psychic? I've NEVER met one yet.

The Sally show I went to, a girl came through who had died after falling down stairs. Turned out that the guy who was in the house at the same time as her pushed her down the stairs after doing other stuff as well. Not sex stuff, cant remember what. But member of the audience who stood up when Sally started talking, confirmed a lot of stuff was true and correct that she was murdered. He did time for it, but everybody is entitled to their opinions

Sorry but one off "readings" seen as "accurate" are not evidence of anything remotely factual! If she can read or speak to the dead it makes a whole host of assumptions starting with an afterlife. These people are total wankers and people who believe them are deluded. If not deluded then I'm quite happy to sell them all my shares in London bridge. If it makes you happy can I suggest you go for a run instead which evidentially makes people better.
