Having a discussion with a friend, about her new recent purchase. She's not on here and can't find a answer on Google, so me being a genius I am thought I'd ask the wonderful ladies of fab (I'm not really a genius, im just trying to help and look good doing it, please dont let me down haha)
Anyways, she's bought 2 basques, 1 is to big but the other fits fine apart from she really doesn't like the bones running up the front.
Will removing them alter the way it fits or damage it etc? She doesn't want to try to find its damaged and can't return it. |

Yes.
The bones give it shape. Basques generally come either boned or boneless. And it's not real bones in most, just plastic straps. |

Don't think she's bought it for the shape side of things, she's just had a bad relationship where she's never had the chance to own anything as such, her fella was a right C*** so she's in that stage where in her mind she wants to feel pretty.
I'm going to assume, they are plastic as it's not like a high end basque, she got them off lovehoney but still cost about £35 or something.
I'll pass the information on to her, might just tell her to try it and if it goes wrong I'll give her the money back as it was my idea. |

Remove them and it will be comfy but the look will change, maybe slightly, maybe a lot."

Are there bones in the back too? Just take the front ones out. You might be able to carefully snip at the fabric and slide them out then slide them back in if you feel it was a mistake and put a stitch in the keep them in place. Obviously you wouldn't be able to return it but it's a way of finding out if it's the bones she doesn't like or the shape of a Basque itself |

Sometimes the bones are removable, they can be removed for washing. But as most are plastic now it isn't necessary to remove them. But worth having a look to check.
Some basques have them just as part of the design and don't really offer any real structure. To be honest unless it's a corset that is designed to cinch you in the bones probably don't offer much support. I've removed bones from basques before as they were digging into me because they got bent under my bust.
