I guess it depends on the message. We often get messages from people in Scotland and Ireland. We often have a nice chat with them and that's all it is.

Some people are happy travel. Others it's more finding the right people than the convenience.
I have travelled considerable distances for a few people I really liked. It's not the norm for me though, and that's really a reflection that I would struggle to maintain a relationship over such a distance, for practical reasons.
I don't think of it as a waste of time though, just because the outcome wasn't perfectly ideal. |

I have had people 200 miles away asking for a meet up & been refused saying 30 is too far away.ill happily travel 100 miles if it feels right (depending on what the situation is,of course) mind you,having now turned down the 200 mile trip.sort of think now what could have been

I'm not sure on the answer either tbh op.
I wonder it too, when I get someone 200+miles messaging me, unless they visit near by regularly, I don't get it.
I had a man say he'd come from Dover to see me once, it's like a ten hour round drive.
I think some are after more pics or sex chat,just my experience, but I soon shut that down. |

Most of the messages I get or send are forum related or of a general nature or are from existing friends.
Perhaps you are mainly talking about 'FAF?' type exchanges? |

I think you find your own balance for what works for you here. And not everyone is here to do what they say are their objectives. Judge by behaviour and actions, not talk.
I've given some the benefits of the doubt a fair few times. I no longer do very long distance chat. I've learned a lot in 15 years here. The silliest was someone over 10,000 miles away, to fuck me within a day which they tried to start explaining as plausible.  . Some like the power. |

Added issue of risk of being related to those in the "Nearby" list.
If I'm meeting, 30miles is max.
If I want to chat shit without consequences, 200+ miles is good.

Some people like to chat or flirt. I myself enjoy it. Some people use this to arrange meets only in clubs. Some only meet from here. Some never meet and just chat. There's really no right or wrong way to use this place. |
