I'm curious what men especially think of the whole self care thing mainly because it's too macho still for some of them .
I do the gym I take a few supplements have a massage gun etc
I also wonder if it's more common for self care on a place like fab in general as I'd say a fair few are more body conscious in general
Thoughts everyone ? |

"I'll answer this question...but first: what's "self care"? It can mean different things to different people."
Yes, I thought self care was about looking after your mental health, not working out at the gym and taking supplements. |

"I'm all done for self care, but mine aren't really vanity based." what would you class as vanity based though ? For me the gym etc all goes to MH because I feel better overall and I do the stuff like meditation etc . Again I'm seeing differences in everyone's thoughts here

Yeah, I see that now. If you prioritise your physical fitness then that can be linked to mental health 🙂 |

"I guess self care is giving yourself what you need whether that’s the gym or whatever it might be. " absolutely, may I ask in your case would you apply that to something like doing the nails ? Something that looks good so you also feel good in yourself if that makes sense .
Again everyone is going to have totally different opinions on what self care is classed as here |

Fitness: Yes. But not excessively so, I run and go for long walks for pleasure.
Physical health. Kinda. I don’t drink alcohol or caffeine, or do drugs, but I don’t have the healthiest diet.
Mental health: No. But I recognise I should do much more. I believe it’s important to talk about things in life that cause stress.
Emotional. No. That’s the one bit of my life that is missing but I’ll deal with that next year.
Cosmetic. No. I wash but that’s about it, I'm not a mirror princess. |

Agreed. It's just baseline normal everyday stuff. I also happen to breathe - is that self care? |

Absolutely. I do it for myself, my children, partners and friends.
I keep good hygiene and I take very good care of my hair and beard. I like to smell nice.
I sea swim year round and walk in the forest when I can.
At least once a week I eat my favourite junk food when the kids are away
I try to see at least one other adult socially or for sex a week.
I meditate and reflect.
I let any of the above slide if I need to go into sloth/cave mode when needed. |

"I think it’s just a bunch of stuff that we’ve always done, but someone gave it a title so they can sell more products related to it.

I agree. Hence why asked." someone gave it a name or there's more awareness ? Sure more products are sold but do they improve the quality of life ? |

Again it's why I've done the post as I'm not really sure there's a right or wrong answer here |

It’s very important to me - good diet, good lifestyle, good friendships, strong healthy mind and body.
The more indulgent stuff like massages facials and pedicures. I probably do just once a month max at the moment. Although I did recently pay for one hour massage that turned into a 3 1/2 hour massage because I was so knackered from walking and it was so good, I didn’t wanna leave |

If that's what makes you feel like the best version of you then that's great |

I’m macho as fuck, and I’m still macho as fuck with an anti aging face cream on.

I spend a lot of time in the gym, lifting weights and circuit training for my mental health as well as physical. But I’ve recently started Pilates and yoga ( both considered feminine classes) and CNN I’m loving all of it . |

I do self care all the time.
Manicures at the shop sometimes. Haircuts. Shaves. Swimming. Dates with myself. Face masks. Foot peels. Foot packs. Obviously I moisturise everyday and do my skincare
I don’t care if it’s not macho. Looking after yourself has always been cool amongst people I grew up with and hang around with. ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

"I'll answer this question...but first: what's "self care"? It can mean different things to different people.

Self care is literally anything that involves looking after yourself.
I wish more men would indulge in, especially hygiene and skin care. |
