The thing I don't get about spooning...

...is when people talk about being a big or a little spoon.
It's called spooning because the people involved resemble spoons fitting together. Spoons fit together when they are the same size, not when they are different. Two dessert spoons or two teaspoons fit together much better than a dessert spoon and a teaspoon.
So rather than talking about big spoon and little spoon, really it makes a lot more sense to talk about front and back spoon.

Oh my apologies!
Sticking to the original post. The term big spoon, little spoon could still be correct if you take tea spoons and dessert spoons out of the equation and think more along the lines of measuring spoons. They all fit together nicely even though they’re different sizes  |
