Grånny, if the women who wish to indulge with me have more than 3½ brain cells, then that's intelligent enough for me. ❤️

That doesn't really answer your question but it's all I can muster on a chilly willy Friday. ❄️

If I tell you 2 plus 2 is 4 that makes me intelligent but because i've told you that makes me not wise ?

Hmmmmmm what if I know where your wallet is and you are looking for it. What then?

What I think intelligence is is going to be different to what others think it is.

But in general I think it's mental flexibility. And what I mean by that is the ability to take knowledge you've learnt and adapt it to various situations.

How did I learn it? Growing up on a farm and having to make snap decisions from a young age.

How does it manifest in my daily life? Constantly in my work place, where I do things nobody else has ever done on a regular basis.

Couldn't remember the rest of the questions but hopefully, I got the gist of it.

Ermm... no. The key word is "When"

The wallet depends. If we are out for dinner and I am paying, it's wise for you to tell me where it is.

If you know I am planning on poisoning your drink and my wallet is where I store the posion, it's probably not wise to tell me.

Defined in the dictionary as the ability to think and behave in a reasonable way and to make good decisions. I think that sums it up for me. There are plenty of intelligent people who seem to lack that ability.

Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live it's whole life believing that it is stupid.

The dictionary sums up intelligence pretty well - The ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills.

I have some. If you use the same knowledge over and over I'm not sure how much it grows. The most intelligent people seem to be constantly challenging themselves.

I agree with the dictionary definition but it is morefFully defined and often preceded by , 'Common sense is "knowledge, judgement, and taste which is more or less universal and which is held more or less without reflection or argument".

And when described as above is something i'd rather not possess

But say a surgeon for example" has the ability to think and behave in a reasonable way and to make good decisions" which is kind of handy whilst he's performing heart surgery. But may be useless at sorting out his finances and sorting out how he's going to the grocery shop. Does that mean he lacks common sense? Or that you may not be able to perform open heart surgery mean that you don't?

Doesn't what common sense is vary from person to person? What is common to some is not to others.

Sagittarius A

The ability to process information; develop conceptual understanding and apply learning creatively to new circumstances. Mostly a genetic predisposition, nurtured and refined through interaction with the environment.

Sure I have a degree of intelligence. People mention geniuses, I've met a few and was sufficiently able to keep up with them, without them becoming overly frustrated by my presence. Even offer a few well received pearls they could assimilate; against the tidal wave of rejection. The experience taught me humility.

Not that mathematics is the only manifestation of intelligence, but it is perhaps one of the easiest to appreciate, in the way weight-lifting signifies strength. They can work from first principles and when you query them e.g. 'ahh you use lapace here?' they say things like: 'sure if that makes it easier for you', which generally speaking there's no arrogance behind at all, but many receive it negatively.

There's usually a pause moment, where they recognise they've commited that horrendous social faux Pas again; I'd wryly smile at them and they'd say: 'would you like me to show you?' and if I get it they'd say: 'can I run something by you, I've been working on - I'd appreciate your thoughts on it.'

That's how I've acquired much of my learning, engaging with people collaboratively. I've been doing that, in various fields, for nearly 30 years now. How intelligent I am really doesn't seem all that important to me anymore. I just following my interests and with the exception of a few loose screws and rattling parts, my brain remains a relatively useful tool in that process.

Define intelligence?

A masters degree or a doctorate?

Or someone who knows random things that I don’t?

It’s, for me, a too broad brush question. I like people who have an interest in something, like a passion or a desire

What is it ? Two types of intelligence intellectual intelligence or IQ ... for some that is measured by academic qualifications but I think that it is often influenced by the opportunities someone has had ... a poor school and not being able to afford uni would prevent intelligent people achieving academically.

Then there is emotional intelligence .... completely separate to the other kind and more often is what influences success. It's self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills ... many people do not have all of those.

Do you have it ? Yes I do have both

Where did you get it ? Hard work, self work and some of it is natural

What do you do with it ? Day-to-day day relationships and I lead an organisation that makes a positive difference to people's lives.

If you use it a lot, does it get smaller or larger ? We should all keep on developing and growing and working on areas of ourselves we can improve.

I think it’s your learn-ability , how you can comprehend & process information and gain insights and apply to other areas, some are better than others.

I think I have some, plenty have a lot more than me

I think it comes from opportunity , environment & Practice. I think this is why literacy & education and privilege is important and the latter problematic - , it provides the skills to gain more intelligence

I use it to live my dream and make a positive impact on the planet.

I think the more you use it the more you acquire , it’s like muscles or sound investments

I'd say that the second example shows intelligence.

The first demonstrates knowledge.

You don't necessarily have to be intelligent to acquire knowledge but demonstrating knowledge can create the appearance of intelligence.

It is the ability to create accurate mental models and use them to make accurate predictions in a wide variety of application's. This ability covers those IQ test "pick the next pattern in a sequence" as much as "if I do x, then that person is likely to have reaction y resulting in outcome z". Our brains work by creating models of everything from our physical surroundings to abstract ideas and using these models to predict outcomes. Some people can do this incredibly well in very specific areas but are useless in others, other people are able to model a far wider range of subjects but perhaps to a lesser level of accuracy.

Do I have it? Tests and feedback from others suggests yes, I am far more aware of the limits of my intelligence than it's extents.

Where do you get it? The usual mix of nature and nurture

What do you do with it - see above, create mental models and use them to predict outcomes.

If you use it ....Intelligence isn't a commodity you can use up or replace. I suspect it is more like a muscle, it can be trained and exercised to increase its "strength" or it can atrophy if not used.
