Should checks be carried out before someone is allowed a dog or a cat
With the amount of dogs and cats in kennels awaiting adoption should pre checks be done to show that someone has the skills for the breed, the ability to house and home them properly and to afford them
Accepting someone’s circumstances can change due to ill health or loss of job surely this would still drop the amount of “trophy” pets and animals that don’t suit an owners need or skills to look after them
You’ll never stop those that breed for financial gain
I don’t know the answer but I was in a rescue place yesterday and it’s heart breaking 💔 |

I thought rescue shelters carried out checks before accepting an application, no?
When we got our rabbits someone had to come round to do a house visit, we had to "pass the test", prove we could look after them etc. It wasn't just a case if slapping a completed form on the desk with the payment and go and choose one. |

Probably they should but unless you get the pet from a rescue charity who's going to carry out the checks?
We always get our cat from Cats Protection. They checked us out the first time, many years ago and briefly visited the second time but since then they assume we're still ok. |

I had my house checked as in garden size and security of it. That was all
But what about breeders. Is where or whom the animal go as important as the money? |

Same here, we've had cats for the best part of 30 years, always from the same rescue centre, and still needed a home visit a couple of months back when we got our current two. I'd rather that though than letting just anybody adopt them |

Checks should be done for any animal that is in someone's care. There should also be a check done a short while after and at the one year mark. Anyone can put on a show for a few meets, it's usually down the road when the abuse starts and no one is watching anymore. |

"Yes the amount of people buying anals during the pandemic
Anal is for life, not just for Christmas 😂"
I don't recall there being a shortage of anal during the pandemic.....if anything, given the amount of bog roll being hoarded there was possibly a surplus. 🤔 |
