Just for a little break. Not really for fun but somewhere nice to stay, go shopping, walk around the town, have a nice meal and drink sonewhere. Just to relax. Do you do them? Where do you normally stay? For me sometimes a nice hotel with all the comforts is what I want, sometimes just a room in an 'airbnb' type of place or a small friendly b&b somewhere. |

We've just returned from a mid week version.
We normally stay in the best hotel we can afford (years of making do focuses your mind on comfort ), enjoy leisurely breakfasts and relaxed evening meals. We might take in a nearby NT property or if there are independent shops have look round them. We always, always make time for coffee and cake.
I'd recommend some of the smaller Wiltshire towns, Canterbury, Hastings (choose location wisely) or Rye. |

"I'd like to visit a few European cities.
With a deal they can be cheaper than staying in the UK.
Very true. We saw a four night break to Prague, b and b for £243 yesterday. Including flights. "
It amazes me how cheaper it is for me to go to Poland or Bulgaria for a week than it is to stay the same week in London |

I've seen 3 nights in Rome for less than £150. |

I guess a lot has to do with cost of living in the destination country.

Regularly as a couple... Chester, York, Edinburgh are lovely for city breaks but a nice spa hotel is good too.
As a singleton I try to get to places I have friends so a couple of European cities are my first choice. I keep threatening to treat myself to a spa break too.
If I can get the dates to work too, I'm planning on a solo cruise next year. |

It absolutely does. When compared to so many European countries. We are so much ridiculous taxes. But that is a rant for another day haha

Nice to read your post, keep them coming. I am surprised about the cheap ones abroad mentioned as they were lits in the past but struggle to find quality ones these days eslecially to German cities which are always enjoyable to visit. |

I enjoyed 4 days in Southern Germany a few years back
It's amazing what's packed into that little pocket down by the German / Swiss / French border
Managed to fit in the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart, the thermal spas in Baden Baden and a nip across the French border to Strasbourg for the most divine chocolate éclair to ever pass my lips |

In the UK. there's a little village on the A64 between York and the East Coast
I found a dog friendly, two bed, converted barn and have stayed there 5 or 6 times now
Not loads in the village itself, a general store, a chippy, a butchers and a couple of pubs, but there is a bakery with seating (inside and out) bout 10 minutes drive away, you're 20 minutes from Malton and about 30-40 minutes to the East Coast, York and Beverley.
Ideal little spot |

January tends to be the quiet month for hotels, so I always have extra breaks then. Obviously just about to arrive
But factor in that weather disruption can be worst then and typically cheapest rates aren't flexible. I keep some bookings for closer to the time, when weather is more predictable |
