The shopkeeper looked at me with an expression that was somewhere between alarmed and scornful before asking "Am yow local?" I felt like I was in an episode of League of Gentlemen. In my experience there is definitely more than one Black Country accent. Those from Dudley (Dudlooy) have a much thicker accent than those from West Bromwich who almost sound like Brummies. (I don't mean "stupider" when I say "thicker"). | |||

"I'm from Northern Ireland. I would say we here hate our own accent. When we hear it on tv. We cringe, although that cringe is soaked with a touch of pride and amusement. Anyway...personally. i love the southern Irish and the Scottish accents. Probably why i mostly holiday exploring the west coast of Ireland.
