Does anyone know if you can do training for a 10k or half marathon partly on a treadmill?. I want to give my knees a rest from running on the road, but don't know if running on a treadmill will be the same as running outside. |

"running on grass is better than on a road or treadmill"
Running on a treadmill will be fine from a training perspective but I'm not convinced it will be significantly easier on your knees.

"If your knees are starting to be a problem, I'd try cycling instead to avoid impact damage. You still get to strengthen your legs. Or get gel inserts to cushion your feet. "
This is a good point.
OP did you get your running shoes from a decent shop and get them properly fitted? |

If your knees hurt you can strap them properly and there will be no pain at all. You strap in a v shape under the kneecap. Or your legs may be different lengths which can cause it. Found that out on grahame norton show last night believe it or not lol. I do most of training on treadmil anyway |

I don't have any problems with knees(yet), but i know running of tarmac all the time won't be good for my knees. I want to switch over to doing some training on a treadmill, but i don't know if doing say 5k on there will benefit me as doing 5k outside. I may try to do a bit of running in my local park.
Im running in a 10k run in about 5 weeks time, and want to beat a friend who is also running it, and ive challenged him that the loser has to pay money to a charity. But his last 10k run was 2 minutes quicker than mine, so im trying to get my time down enough to try to beat him. |
