I’m proper skint everyday……but November/ December is by far my worst part of the year, car MOT, tax, and insurance causes a massive hit.

God yeah I’ve just had some issues with my cat which so very nearly required a vet visit but she miraculously got better when I got the carrier out. But £700! Whew! And these pets don’t even know we’re spending our savings on them

Just a tip, to anyone with pets really as I only found toward the end of mines.

It is cheaper to buy meds online even with prescription costs, BUT, and here is the but, if you are getting repeat meds, say antibiotics, pain meds, ongoing treatment meds, the vet can write on the prescription that it can be repeated twice.

This means a few things. 1 you don't need to pay for a consult check up. And two, you don't need to pay for two further prescriptions. That alone at m vet would save just around £100. When you add the cheaper cost of online meds you're saving again. They simply hold the prescription on file, and dispense it when you request/pay for the next meds.

Hope that helps for some

To make that clear, you get the prescription + two further repeat prescriptions without having to get any new prescription.

It obviously only works (or you only ask for it) if your pet is having the same meds issued as a constant.

Thank you. The £700 is for medication ordered online, his meds were over £1,000 if I got them direct from the Vet.

And the prescription is covered for five months and I have signed up for the health care plan at my vets, for £30 a month he has unlimited vet visits with that so that helps. Though my vet is happy with online reviews now he's showing signs of improvement

*sorry for being off topic Bodyke x

Depends on what you call skint

Can’t afford to eat and pay bills

Or

Can afford a new phone and play station or x box account and sky or Netflix or any other thing but can’t afford bills

For me a present doesn’t need to be of any financial cost. Anyway given any money can buy anything. I’d rather a promise, such as a time with someone like on a walk,

Now we have nearly www2.999999 and things changing throughout the world but we must grow the economy somehow (to enable some rich people to get exponentially richer by tapping the holes at the lowest, unhidden part of the economy) Consider me extremely disappointed with humanity as a collective right now.

You make a very important point there, fat too many people today particularly under 30's trying to live a insta Life with expensive holidays in exotic locations and they all HAVE to have a brand new car even though just passed test, brand new furniture biggest telly going, newest phone.......

All of these things are usually excessive something people even as recently as ten years ago would never have dreamed of doing.

And back when we first started out it was crappy cheap car, second hand furniture including telly fridge and cooker, couldn't afford a landline so no phone.

And as for holiday well we never had a holiday until into our 40's.

Once again the evil seed that is social media is programming the younger generations to live a lavish lifestyle far from reality.

Fine if you can afford it but I think many thousands are racking up huge debts as a result.

Not proper skint thank goodness, we've had some of that for month after relentless month. It's soul destroying.

We cut our Christmas gift giving back to just our children and their partners, parents, each other and one of my good friends. We never did get involved in christmas eve boxes, new pyjamas for everyone, gifts for hairdressers, teachers, the neighbours dog blah de blah.

Proper skint to me means you can't afford holidays, clothing is second hand, heating barely goes on, books from a library etc. A friend describes themselves as proper skint when they've splashed out on a holiday and new clothing. My sympathy is zero for that.

And no, I'm not in that position. I was for some of my childhood though. It wasn't an easy time. I hope for those who are in that position you find ways to increase your income and things improve for you soon. You don't need to give gifts.

This life style is often aided and abetted by their parents as many subsidise them and/or let them live at home for free.

It's only when their parents stop paying that they realise what the real cost of living is.

I don't think it's to do with mocial sedia; faceachebook, instabollocks, or those things. I think it's comes down to a mix of; working, being content and using one's head.

I know a man who was brought up with nothing. He didn't go abroad as a child, he didn't have Adios Trainers, he didn't have Nice trainers or any of that bollocks. He had fuck all as a child.

He was determined, and he over-thought everything. He became fascinated with the way things worked. He was content, and he studied. He was able to save and he worked while he studied. He got a good job straight after. He carried on saving and spent very wisely. He'd use vouchers, discount codes, etc, you name it to get things cheaper.

When he was young, he'd work about 16hrs a day doing what he loved. He started to save more, and more. After a few years, he started to seek ways in which he could reduce his expenditure, improve his life, and start investing at the same time.

He found those ways, over the years the investments started to pay off, and after ten years he didn't need to work anymore. He's not a millionaire and has no desire to be one. He still doesn't have a £1,000 phone, he doesn't buy £500 shirts or any of that nonsense. He still drives a shit car too. He doesn't care about those things.

Anything is possible if you work hard and think.

When I first passed my test in my early 20s, I looked at getting a crappy cheap car but the insurance allone was £250+ alone. I got a car on finance that was only a couple of years old for £90 a month and then my insurance was £79 a month with a black box and the car had a couple of years still on the guarantee. It made financial sense. Obviously the holidays and stuff are different.

I got a lot of furniture second hand but I was lucky to have family with vans to transport it. It's also not as easy to get second hand furniture these days. Christ, it was harder to even give it away than it was 5 years ago. I tried when we moved recently and the turn around time is so quick with moving it was so hard. I had a lot of interest but people didn't have transport to collect it and wouldn't even have time to arrange it if they were willing to hire a van. I tried to donate to charity but they'll only take sofas with fire safety labels (fortunately ours had one) and wouldn't take a bed frame without a mattress. Lots ended up in the tip that was perfectly good because I couldn't get it collected, I had to get rid of it quickly or my landlord would charge me and some of it would only fit in my car if it was broken into bits. I can see why people don't bother as it was incredibly stressful and in the end I only managed to save the sofa.

I’m in a lot of debt atm because of various mental illness breakdowns and issues etc- slowly paying it all back now that my mental health is somewhat manageable 🤞🤞

And it’s a good idea to charge for the handshake 😁 £10 a kiss ?

Seriously i hope all works out well - its tempting to go into debt, but its just one day.. Try and do memories instead xx

It's great that you are regaining control - if it's adult gifts, can you do any crafting - crochet, knitting, dried flowers, wreaths etc... I've collected some shells for family members this year and added then to cheap display jars - they look gorgeous and cost me £2.50

I can embroider, and I made my sister in law an embroidery for her birthday this year, so maybe I need to crack out the supplies again
