I read an interesting article about narcissists and it was about why silence is the best response to a narcesissts.
Did you know that being silent to them is an excellent way to go if you are serious about getting rid of them?
They added that the less you say to a narcissist, the stronger you will become, because they have this tendency to think of the worst things until paranoia sets in their mind.
That got me thinking, it would be interesting to see your view about it, did you know the importance of being silent to them, also if you had to deal with one, have you tried this tecnique too and how did it go? |

Ewoooo! Someone is always saying something, if you know what I mean. Whatever you do, there will be another side to the story or some counter-claim.
I agree with this particular one though. The way forward is to completely ignore, yes, it worked for me.
Although a friend of mine was talking about this last week and she said "ignoring is a narcissistic trait". You can't win whatever you do! |

Narcissism comes from deep insecurity.
Just tell them "I don't care what everyone else says about you, I think you're alright."
Or do the grown up thing and remove them from your life, they are drowning and will pull you down and drown you too. |

"I don't think I know any narcissists. How would I identify one?
Everyone’s a narcissist now don’t you know. It’s the latest fashion darling.

It seems that everyone is able to diagnose this condition |

Educate yourself on covert passive aggressive narcissists. There's other types of narcissists but COVERT is hard to recognise as they are nice to you.

No idea. I suspect we could all identify narcissistic traits in other people and ourselves (if, unlike me we knew what they were) but I'd rather leave it to professionals to diagnose personality disorders or whatever narcissism is. |

It does. It’s mainly nonsense though. Basically anyone who they don’t like or get on with is labelled as a narcissist.
I’ve noticed that the ones doing the accusing might benefit from taking a leaf out of Narcissus’ book and take a look at their reflection. |

I learned this the hard way. I'm naturally a communicator. If there's a problem then I prefer to talk about it and try to reach a solution. Unfortunately that's not possible with a narcissist. You may get the chance to have that adult conversation, you may even get some acceptance that your reasoning and logic is sound but it'll be superficial and nothing meaningful will change. The narcissists behaviour will happen again as they didn't actually agree with you, just lacked the ability to argue against you. That in itself becomes it's own problem because you must have used some word-wizardry to bamboozle and confound. Big words become bemoaned and berated as weapons. Another stick to beat you with.
In the end, only silence can win.
My new favourite saying... The peace I feel without your presence in my life is worth being the villain in your story. |

"I don't think I know any narcissists. How would I identify one?"
Is this one of those awkward "if you can't see a narcissist in the room then you're it" moments?

Narcissists, can be the most charming of people, however that is a well oiled element of their manipulation tool box.
They are devoid of empathy. The world is their stage, they are the leading star, and everyone else is an extra . These extras are there to caress and stroke the fragile ego of the Narcissist.
Most have invested emotionally before they realise. The loss of breaking up with a Narcissist is complex, as the physical person is still there, but the projected persona was never real.
Never feed the Narcissist with attention. Withdraw and move on. Usually with the benefit of counselling.
I have clinical training, and have encountered several Narcissists, and their victims. |

"I don't think I know any narcissists. How would I identify one?" Yes, it could be difficult to identify one, they have a personality disorder and there are few signs of it, where the main one is the lack of empathy and consideration for other people.

Surely they are just personalities ,people if we were all the same wouldn't it be a dull place ,just because we don't especially enjoy that trait doesn't make it wrong . |

At a rough estimate what percentage of the population would you say were genuine, clinically diagnosed narcissists? |

I cut one off recently, her narcissistic and manipulative ways turned out to be quite disturbing.
I don’t hate but wish her well in her journey to becoming a better person inside.
But I’d rather not have any future interactions with her as I am far better without people like that in my world 😊 |

Therefore 95% or more aren't which means most of us have very little chance of meeting a narcissist would you say? |

I've found not showing the interest that they once had, left them not having as much control of there actions
As they revolve around or feed off attention and didn't care how they got it

The silent treatment or ignoring someone is a narcissistic trait.
If it is known that it will push them into overthinking and paranoia and mental health then it's not a good thing to do.
You post so many threads about narcissists Shag.... they seem to interest you but never lose sight that they are human and never set out to suffer from narcissism.
It's quite unnerving to see them singled out as a section of society to demonise.
True I don't want narcissists in my life but then at one time we were ignorant of ADHD , Aspergers, Depression Autism and conditions like Bi Polar and there would have been uncaring , ignorant , incorrect posts about those people too.
Narcissism isn't a label that should be attached to someone who is just a twat you had a run in with. It's a bone fide categorisable condition. |

The voice of reason again Granny. People can claim to be empathic and good all round sorts, but are happy to “not piss on people if they were on fire”.

Live and learn as you go.
I tend to be wary of the all around nice people that are always ‘aww hubby’ as that seems to be a trait looking for attention or kudos.
More straightforward people might seem less approachable but don’t play at that sort of thing. |
