I've got plenty of reservations about this writer's main body of work, but I like this (paraphrased).
Many of our issues are "that we have paleolithic emotions, within medieval institutions, but the technology of gods".
Anyone suggesting humanity can exist non-technologically (ie a return to basics) doesn't understand that that's impossible for our species - we'd have to go back to being "obvious" apes, and stay there, in order not to be technically creative.
So we're stuck with techne, and therefore we have to work on our paleolithic (pre-paleolithic really) and medieval sides if we want this party to continue.
Because paleolithic emotions + medieval institutions + technology beyond our consciousness to manage it = bye bye humans. |
