Marlon Brando was not a particularly tall man at 5′8″, but he was a boxer in his youth and he was muscular, powerfully built and could throw a punch. Later in life, he became very obese, but until about age fifty, he was all muscle. A notoriously private man (we STILL don’t know how many kids he has sixteen years after his death!), he absolutely hated paparazzi. Of these, the worst by far was Ron Galella. He stalked Brando repeatedly, until Brando turned around and warned him: “If you don’t get lost right now, I will break your jaw…”. |

Not a real life movie star but he was in movies. I've been hearing that Wacko Jacko was Gangster AF, I knew he'd done Paul McCarty dirty over the Beatles publishing rights, I've also been hearing lately that he put manners on Tupac, for being disrespectful to Quincy Jones's daughter. Not surprising he knew how to use his fists, considering Joe (his father) could have turned pro and I'm positive Joe would have thought his six sons and three girls how to look after themselves.
Growing up in Gary, Indiana (shit hole), youngest of six boys and a father who could of been a prize fighter. I don't think I'd of fucked with Micky J ![](/icons/s/redface.gif) |

No such thing as red Indian. It's Native American at the least, preferred term is First Nation. |

Surely there must have been at the time when that was what they were called? They might have known themselves by other terms but that wouldn't have precluded them from existing under a name generally used, rightly or wrongly, by others at the time.
Red Indians, or 'Injuns' were what they were called in the era when I might have watched such films.
What next? No such thing as cowboys because they were really equestrian farm hands? !!! |

Its got to be Arnie. Surely? There is footage of him a couple of years ago from various angles and he's in what looks like a sports hall of some kind down in - I believe - Australia and some pretty geeky looking youth decides it would be funny to kick 70 odd year old Mr Schwarzenegger. So this kid comes flying in with a brutal two footed lunge and hits Arnie with enough force with both feet to knock anyone over. Any of us reading this would have been sent flying!
Arnie? Oh no! The stupid kid literally bounces off his T-800 colossal frame and hits the deck hard with Arnie maybe moved a few inches or so. At most!
Probably luckily for the kid the event security all pounce and smother him... otherwise I could have seen him being rushed to A&E... to have his ripped off arms surgically re-attached... once they'd extracted them both from his rectum! |

There were names used for other groups used in the past that we don't use now. Try using those names now to describe different groups of people. |

Dreadful commentator though! If you can find the very first UFC tournament, he commentated on that and was piss poor - at one stage describing the ring as an "octagonal octagon" Well done Bill! |

"Jason Statham I mean he's got a popeye chin "
Statham is legitimately tough.
Started out as a competitive diver ala Tom Daley. He also has a black belt in Karate. As does Guy Ritchie.
Wouldn't sleep on Tim Holland either. Started of as a dancer, is seriously into MMA and has serious gymnastics moves from playing Spiderman.
Other genuine hard men.
David Niven who was a Commando in World War II
Richard Todd who was a paratrooper with the Durham Light Infantry on Pegasus Bridge in World War II
And Peter Butterworth of Carry On fame who was involved in the actual escapes depicted in 'The Wooden Horse' and 'The Great Escape'

Guy Ritchie is a Judo and Brazilian Jiu jitsu black belt.
Statham also has practiced BJJ and has boxed, not sure about karate though.Tom Hardy is a BJJ purple and belt and regularly competes. |

Peter Butterworth. Maybe not the toughest but part of the planning team for the Great Escape and was deemed too important to go on it. Probably saved his life. Ironically he was rejected for a part in ‘The Wooden Horse’ a film depicting an escape from a POW camp as he was too unbelievable to be an escapee.
Oh. David Niven. He had some stories to tell too. |

No, Sonny Landham was not 'tough'. He did some time in the US Army, & as an oil field worker. Then time in prison as he had serious substance abuse issues and beat women up. Hence why he kept wanting to fight people and his acting career went to shit.
(Seriously it's 2024, you're on the internet and you couldn't Google the guy?)
He was tough in the same way d*unken idiots at kicking out time think they're tough.
And yeah, redskin, red indian or injun are racial slurs. Sorry you didn't get the memo from 30+ years ago.
You mention Predator but the 3 actual tough guys...
- Jesse Ventura a Navy SEAL and Vietnam War veteran
- Carl Weathers who was a Linebacker with the Oakland Raiders
- Jean-Claude Van Damme who was a professional kickboxer before becoming an actor (19 W - 1 L and 18 wins via KO) (was the original actor for the predator but was cut when the original costume concept didn't work out)
They just passed you by.

Oh the guy has serious presence.
Often the more interesting question isn't who are the actual hard/tough guys.
It's who of the guys we think of as just hard cases or actors have other talents.
We know Terry Crews as an actor and former professional American Football player. However, he is an incredibly talented artist. When his football career was flagging he made extra money selling pictures and doing portraits.
Hedy Lamarr one of the true beauties of gold age Hollywood was also an inventor and electrical engineer. |

I’ve seen somewhere that Tom Hardy is quite good at the old MMA.. could just be internet waffle though.
I’m a massive NFL fan and quite a few players broke through into Hollywood.. bona fide another level tough these guys..
Jim Brown, OJ Simpson (less said about that the better) Carl Weathers etc.
But they’d all lose to Godzilla. |

Christopher Lee with Audie Murphy a close second. Anyone with WW2 special forces experience is always going to be a bad ass. Throw in an interest in occultism and you have a thread winner.
If it was TV shows then Chris Ryan with his appallingly bad cameo in Ultimate Force might have a shout. Met him a few times professionally and informally and he's an absolutely charming killer lol. |

Less MMA but is know to regularly compete in BJJ competitions.
Keanu Reeves & Lawrence Fishburne both had to be taught Kung Fu to work with the stunt team for the Matrix movies. Keanu has kept up with the skills also adding BJJ and competing in 3 Gun Competitions off the back of John Wick.
Ed O'Neill best know for his Comedy work had black belts in Karate & BJJ. |
