Was at Wembley on Saturday with a 11 year old and 74 year old. It struck me as very sad to see middle aged men with bloodied knuckles and faces thinking it was an acceptable way to spend a day. It was intimidating and unnecessary and made me wonder what lives these people lead that they still find enjoyment in their 40s fighting. |

Adrenaline is the answer as to why. Don't have to live an empty life to seek that, but I know what you mean! At least it isn't like the eighties and early nineties, my uncle was into it then and he's pretty damn lucky to be alive. He says it has way calmed now in regards to the extremity of it all. But remember, he fuckers are notorious for not giving a crap about the others there :/ I'll bet all of them will have lifetime bans, pretty stupid to do it in the stadium, or anywhere really...CCTV! |

Not sure that all of it starts out as hooliganism as groups of over excited friends with too much ale inside them and being unable to handle it.
That in itself can act as a catalyst / flashpoint. |

I was there as well, Whilst i do not encourage this sort of behaviour lets point out a few things.
FA got it wrong with the kick off time. 1715hrs kick = all day drinking.
Fighting did break out, no excuse, however when people tried to step in to stop it, it got worse.
Police took 20 minutes at least to step in, too long in my book.
Be it Millwall or Tooting and Mitcham Utd, you will always get idiots, which are not a true reflection on the club. Sad but true. |

I totally disagree when people say its all about drinking all day I use to be a casual in the 80/90s and we hardly ever d*unk , it's all about the rivalry,hatred and to be the best firm

And have you grown out of it? My point maybe poorly made is that in your 40s surely there are more fun things to do than bounce your fist of someones face? |

Is it peer pressure combined with a heady atmosphere? I don't understand violence as a response but I can see how people get caught up in a moment and then find themselves doing things they might not normally do. |

Used to follow a team in Belfast in the early 80s and with the sectarian stuff and the team rivalry it was really bad most weeks at the game and to and from it was easy to get caught up in it and could get really out of hand but some lads really got off on it and looked forward to a Saturday I stopped going in1985 as it was totally out off hand but didn't really get much media attention due to all the other stuff going on at the time.. |
