Are all current horror films rubbish or are there some hidden gems out there that will surprise me?

I love horror movies of any type but I don't find any of the recent ones scary at all. I had high hopes for mama but it was a massive let down!

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Only one bit of that film freaked me out. The bit where she looks at the guy sat at the table an the red/black face guy shows his face.

Sinister was pants too.. Went to see that at the cinema.. Wasnt as good as it was hyped up to be!

Thanks I've seen most of the films on this thread. I only ask as I am currently watching wrong turn 4 which is pretty much what I expected and I was just hoping something decent has come out that I've missed!

I do love jap horrors but it detracts from the film too much when you have to read the subtitles I find

Second nature to me now , the remakes are never as good. I detest dubbed.

The most recent movies that have scared the be jaysus outta me are the romantic comedies that Hollywood seem to be churning out.

I agree I hate dubbing. I hate it even when the film is out of sync! Some jap remakes are good but because we have now relaxed the rules on gore in films all the horrors seem to be going for loads of blood which I don't find scary at all. I prefer things likes the ring and stuff like that. Supernatural tend to be better if its done right I think.

I have to say.. Boogeyman freaked the crap outta me. It took me right back to being a little girl. Wasn't even scary really, just filled my head with all the creepy things i used to think about lying in bed as a kid....

I've got that but I haven't watched it yet. It's on my to do list! I think part of the problem is I grew up watching horrors from about 11 years old so I expect too much of them!

It's classed as a comedy horror and holds up well to that title!

SFX move on so quickly now that it tends to be the films that suggest what is going on rather than those that have lots of blood that do better over time I think.
