So much bad news on TV at the moment, life can be so sad sometimes.

I catch a headline, father/mother/child killed in crash/fire/murdered/suicide etc..and turn it off, I cant read it, I dont want to read it..

Is it a 'weakness' to pull the reality curtains and shut yourself away from it?

Is protecting your feelings wrong?

Same here my life is already crap without watching more doom and gloom, I know it's there I've left so many groups on Facebook lately as I can't see no more cruelty to animals as it breaks my heart every time cowardly I might me but I don't need another sleepless night

No. The news can be depressing. It is like anything potentially harmful, best to limit your exposure. I suppose it depends what sort of a

person you are. Some are able to cope with distressing things better than others. For me, I know how fucked up the world is, I do not need that negativity rammed down my throat every few hours. So if it is a bit much for you, no shame in turning it off. Some news stories can make you feel awful for days or weeks on

end.

I think the media is designed to make people feel opressed and scared of the outside world, it breaks up communities, it divides people and establishes preconceived ideas in their heads.

Divide and Conquer, the ultimate strategy to control the population.

Think I'm crazy, if I say the word "Muslim", a large majority would think terrorist or Al Qaeda, when that isn't the case at all.

I don't think it's a case of ostrich syndrome, but more "I don't want to be depressed by all this doom & gloom, death & destruction"

I don't watch Emmernation Enders and read newspapers from the back page first

Interesting..I just think to myself sometimes 'should I face this head on or turn away'...its not a case of not wanting to bring myself, though, I just hate hearing of such terrible things..
