Evening all
So I was wondering those amongst you who work shifts so don’t have the ‘normal’ weekends off … do you find it a blessing or a curse?
I love my time off as can gets lots done. … but sometimes when it’s weekday time off there’s no one around to enjoy it with….
What’s your thoughts?

days/nights/weekends, 13hr shifts, never the same each week.
sometimes i love it, sometimes i hate it. i don't find that it affects what i do in my spare time, it's just annoying sometimes when you're missing events etc Px |

"I worked shifts for years 4 on 4 off. Loved it. I now work Monday to Friday and hate it. Katie works 12 hour shifts and that's all you do on workdays. It makes things difficult to arrange meets. "
I agree …. Long shifts = tired |

For years and years I resented having to work shifts and not having a Mon-Fri 9-5 job.
Until I got one just after the pandemic.
I hated every second of it- I lasted 4 months 🤣🤣🤣
It felt so claustrophobic, so controlling, so restrained. Working with the same 4-5 people every single day- I wanted to die haha. I wasn’t cut out for that kind of work dynamic. |

days/ lates/nights/weekends, 11 hour shifts, never the same each week it’s a 6 week rolling scheduled.
If I said I loved it( I would be lying) but sometimes i hate it ( most days) i don't find that it affects what me and my partner do in our spare time, it's just annoying most of the time when you're missing events at your favourite clubs. |

Work shifts - read the other day that one report suggested it can knock 15years off life expectancy, but the extra money and the time off is a bonus - but getting older is starting to tell on the ability to recover from night shifts |

I’ve been a professional chef for over 20 years and this is the best description of my shift patterns.. When I was younger I used to get miffed that when my crowd were out doing something I was always working, but as I’ve aged and calmed down a little, I accept that I have my down time in the week and that’s not necessarily a bad thing |

Yeah I think it’s the night part of shifts that reduce life expectancy just through the way we are ‘built’ to roam in the daylight and recover while we sleep in the dark…. But what is life expectancy these days … |

Pretty much yes, with up to 12hrs time zone difference either side of GMT. |

I used to work 8 hour shifts on a rolling system, 8-4,4-12,12-8, seven days, two off then after three cycles ten days off. Loved it, every two days I got a lie in. Then there was a shift pattern review and the one that won the vote was 12.5 shifts, two days, two nights, four off. Three cycles then ten off. Absolutely hated it. People were amazed at how many days I had off in a year (220 on average) but spent many days catching up on sleep and too tired to do much. It was the constant changing from days to nights to days that just did not work for me.Plus of course weekends, Christmas etc were off the table |
