Judging by the number of pictures of people within the purple themed hotel, maybe they should do us a deal.

Special access. Day rooms. Double showers. They could sponsor the site! Free all you can eat breakfast

Biggest problem with Premier Inn (besides that bloody Lenny Henry always spying on you!) is the fact you can't get about unless you have a key card. These other hotels that let you come and go (excuse the pun) are far better.

I travel and stay in hotels for work. The perception is that Premier Inn is cheap but quite often the 4 star hotel chains are cheaper and let you check in earlier for free if your room is ready.

Whilst Premier Inn is good for security if travelling solo for work (key cards needed to access room corridors), other hotel chain’s rooms are more accessible for discrete use.

I've not done Travelodge for about 10-12 years and they'd seemed to have gone downhill and haven't rushed back. The Premiers I've stayed at, have been better but not done any since before the pandemic, I've stayed in other brands. It's good to have heard others' feedback on them more recently than my experience.

I’ve paid between £56 - £90 for the one I use regularly at Aintree. It does depend what events are happening in the area at the time, as to the demand for rooms, so price hikes can occur. Booking in advance with the Flexsaver option I find works well

Literally. Hotels which don’t have keycard restrictions for the lifts or corridors allowing multiple ‘guests’ to proceed straight to a room are the best. You aren’t a really a naughty hotwife until you have at least one profile picture with the distinctive ‘Village’ striped carpet and wallpaper in the background…

There ought to be a Fabswingers discount code for Village Hotels and Dayroom / Dayuse

Not quite true. Well, not for me. Setting aside any perks I use...

A Premier Inn isn't necessarily the "budget" hotel it once was. Sure, it fits in to that role in the market but that doesn't equate to it being the cheapest. The supply demand factor kicks in - with so many seeing a PI as being the most affordable, the occupancy rate increases and what with it being more oft than not a dynamic pricing strategy, the room rate increases.

The edge of town basic Premier Inn might, at weekends, be a more attractive commodity for the leisure market, specifically younger families. Parking, room size, recurring breakfast offers. In contrast the inner city "nice" hotels, especially those targeted at the more corporate clientele (Tuesday and Thursday nights) may actually prove cheaper. Like wise on Sunday/Monday nights - industry wise hospitality often suffers/closes yet hotels remain open. Good deals can be found then.

Another consideration are the third-party booking sites. Quite often the budget hotels don't readily appear on those sites because they want to try and drive people to book direct through them. In contrast the "nicer" hotels can appear and if you have notice, it's more than possible to find a good deal through one that's cheaper than the budget option.

As an example I recently stayed at a 5* hotel in central London. It was £46 cheaper than the closest Premier Inn. I don't think I can name sites to visit on the forums but they are out there. Easy to set up price drop notifications, to download apps so you can benefit from further deals.

I agree with Mèlí on some of the misconceptions about budget hotels.

I'll be the first to admit that I have used Travelodge and they serve a purpose. Because of The Fab Curse I've had to rendezvous equidistant for dates and often Travelodge is the only viable option through limited choice.

I also admit that one of my favourite hotels when attending the MLS is actually the Premier Inn Manchester Piccadilly. Is it - dare I say it - chic, boutique'y and modernistic and they have really made an effort with the premium rooms. Of course they are all formulaic within their layout - the purple mood lighting, Nespresso machines and fridge and so forth. But it isn't cheap! In summer I stayed in the Leonardo in Manchester - another somewhat relatively 'upscale' hotel that I really like and this was actually cheaper than the aforementioned Premier Inn!

I've booked a Radisson Blu in Birmingham for date in November which, in my opinion, outstrips the Leonardo Hotel nearby, but the Leonardo was waaaaay more expensive than the Radisson Blu for some inexplicable reason.

In any case these hotels all add up and a gentleman can only afford so much. Love was never cheap, my credit limit is not as deep as my lovers' cervices, but looser than their purses. These confounded vixens!

Interesting. I use both the lodge chain apps and another wider app when looking.

These days more likely to be for when travelling with the kids, so sometimes one is better of cheaper, sometimes the other.

Ad you said, so many factors on the pricing

North West

In my experience, the more upmarket a hotel, the more useless and frankly unsafe the "accessible" bathroom is, and the less actually accessible the hotel features are. I don't want deep, plush carpets or massive heavy doors. I want hard floors and push buttons galore. And a shower seat that doesn't fall off the wall, installed by someone who doesn't understand basic physics and more for aesthetics than practicality. Premier Inn Hub wins every time.

But few hotels of any kind offer family rooms that are accessible! You have to leave your kid in the corridor or something
