Do you do it and what does it do for you.
For me - it allows my system to catch-up, and keeps 'everything' in working order... Muscles, joints; you name it.
I have a day a week I don't eat anything and it never fails to amaze me the 'cleansing' I experience; including of the mind, (more alert, happier etc). |

It's been touted for years but I get far too hungry. I couldn't imagine being on a one day strike and seeing someone with a good looking sandwich or whatever, even an ad for a cheese dippers would set me off |

You maybe don't need to do it just now. xx |

I'm all for it. I do intermittent fasting. I only eat from 12pm to 8pm. It's so good for you. I mean it's been around for centuries! It brings so much clarity for your head. I mean Ramadan is forty days of fasting, you fast from sun up to sun down. (Not even water). |

"Not deliberately. It might suit some people but not me.
It was once a part of life because food wasn't always available but it is now "
It's more of a spiritual thing, rather than because food is not available. It's seen as a cleansing. |

I understand that it is for some people but there are loads who do it for the physical benefits. I shake and get cold sweats if I don't eat for long periods so it wouldn't do for me at all |

Some people talking about side effects... That's most-likely the body detoxing... It's killing off old cells (atophagy). I used to get killer headaches with it etc. Most people experience lots of gas due to the bad bacterial die-off but after a few 'sessions' it decreases and goes away.
It's not natural to continually eat, the body needs time to detox itself and clean itself out. It doesn't have to be crazy 1 month fasts or anything; even just a few hours of letting yourself be hungry reaps benefits. Lot's of people claim they have been cured of diabetes/cancers with it (due to it destroying unhealthy cells) etc.
It works for me, not not lengthy fasts (as I'm already really slim with not much stored fat). A day does me well, once a week... Keeps the pipes clean! |

I naturally go 12 to 14 hours without food.
I don't believe our bodies need 'detoxing' we have livers and kidneys for that. I do believe our bodies don't need the junk that's so readily available and that some people need to recognise the difference between hunger and just fancying something to eat. Less reliance on Uber eats etc too |

"If you enjoy it and if works for you. Then enjoy I say "
Yep... That is true of everything. Including smoking... (I know someone who smokes because if they didn't have that addiction they couldn't even get out of bed in the morning)... So each to their own! |

I dont fast for a full day, but I do make sure my evening meal is early 5-6pm, and then I dont eat anything until the morning after, so normal 15'ish hours without food. That makes my body use its natural resources for energy during that period and I am not going to bed on a full stomach |

Some people's livers and kidneys don't fuction 100% and they have to restrict diets, not eat solids etc. For me I have to fast ... My body just can't keep up, but as you say; we all fast to some degree for various lengths. |

Yeah that to me sounds like sensible fasting there! I'm of a similar vein... Not eating too late etc... Giving the digestive system a rest so it's not constantly working away... |

If it suits you I think it's great . I know that if I eat a lot on a regular basis like at Christmas or on holiday I feel sluggish and sort of bloated, especially if a lot of carbs has been involved.
I reckon now we have the luxury (for most of us in the west) of being able to choose the food we eat that we can find the diet that suits us best |

2-3 times a year I do a 3-5 day fast. Agree re cleansing the mind etc.
With a linger fast time slows down (once the hunger and headaches pass) , when you think about how much time you spend thinking about, preparing, eating, cleaning up etc and organising your life around meals , when you take that out for a few days a lot of new insights come. |

I know... I used to eat two meals a day, now it's just one... I'm the same weight and everything so it was all just a waste of time and food. All that extra food did was bag me up.
But... everyone is different for sure and I don't think fasting is the 'miracle' its claimed to be (for everyone)... Nor is swimming in ice-cold water. Anything taken to the extreme is (in my view)... not beneficial. |

Lost 4 stone doing 2x 40 hour fasts a week. Felt great. Didn’t get loose skin like I would have doing a calorie controlled diet. Researched a lot before doing this, there are a lot of misconceptions out there, in fact I had some before starting too, such as loosing energy and feeling tired, where actually the opposite happens. |

Very true. I found that after the inital typical: "I'm hungry"; it went away after a few hours and I started to feel sharp and a lot of ailments sorting themselves out. I fasted (partly) for SIBO to encourage the bacteria to get back to the proper place. It's all been helping; though it's a work in progress still, but I know myself that sometimes my pipes need time to clean. |

Building awareness, new insights, physical and mental strength & resilience happens when we do things our bodies and minds are not used to , that push us a little further, causing stress & pain but not enough for long term damage. Your body quickly adjusts, grows and it can become the new normal.
