I know it's not really the place for this but my doctors suspect I have this. Anyone who has this what foods are best to eat? I still have to get my 90g protein in a day. For me this will be a big change to give up the sweet things in life .

Get a food sensitivity test done.

I was told for years I had IBS and had every test going. The results were inconclusive so they told me I had IBS.

I had a test done in the local health food store that showed I was lactose intolerant. I cut out dairy 12 years ago and haven't had any issues since apart from the odd time I accidentally eat something with dairy in it.

I used to suffer and mine was bought on by stress. I found dealing with stress worked , eating more fresh fruit and vegetables.

I don’t have it but a family member does. I think different things trigger it for different people. It could be certain foods, lack of sleep or stress.

It's different for everyone. It definitely doesn't have to mean you cut out sweet things.

It's best to have a formal diagnosis and not just "thinks" you have it because it could be something else!

For me it's linked to my adhd, stress and hormones. Not alot to do with food

I suffered with digestive issues throughout my twenties and found the following things definitely helped and now its pretty much under control

1) Keep an extensive food diary for a good 6 weeks and see how you react to certain foods then slowly start eliminating them. Its difficult to do but possibly try eating the same balanced meals for the entire time including all the common foods that cause issues (gluten, lactose, sugars, eggs, fats etc)

2) I found cutting out dairy, gluten, sugar and processed foods definitely helped!

3) slowly increase your fibre intake and focus more on soluble fibre! Takes abit of experimenting too but there are some fibres i cant handle well but I have narrowed it down now to ones i tolerate

4) definitely keep a regular sleep schedule and routine, this is so powerful its under valued

5) exercise, exercise, exercise! Incorporate cardio and stretching daily helps keep things regular

6) stress and anxiety play a big role so sometimes you need to address these issues head on otherwise its a losing battle. Exercise helps and i found certain anxiety meds/supplements helped too

7) limit alcohol. Unfortunately its a gut irritant so dont go crazy with it

8) water, water, water! Ensure you are well hydrates at all times

9) fermented foods help too. Greek yogurt and sauerkraut are my go to daily ones

10) i only now eat lean meats with veggies and fruits. Rye nd sourdough bread are great too

11) avoid caffeine aswell, but teas especially herbal teas are great! Ginger or peppermint help soothe my gut

It took years for me to get to this stage but its definitely worth the effort. IBS is not well understood and differs from person to person

You really do have to take an individualist approach to seeing what works best for you. Some of these steps may help you and some may not!

My ex developed ibs after we’d been together about 5 years. She’d never done anal before me and blamed me for it lol. Pretty sure I never went anywhere near that deep lol.

There are some common triggers such as caffeine and onions I believe, but different people react in different ways. Keep a food diary and your see what’s triggering you.

Fermentable oligo, di-saccharides and malabsorbed polyols.

Keep a simple diet to start with. White rice, fish meat probalby. I've eaten many food raw and never had the trio of what I call IBS - pressure in abdomen, burping, diarheah and foul gas. If youve got foul gas you ate something that was malabsorbed generally, this usually means fermented rather than digested. Maybe a bit of Small Intestinal Bowel Overgrowth.

Just don't get too complex on it, start with simple foods that you never have problems with.

I'm not saying food is the only reason but its likely one.

I've been on a low FODMAP diet for 5 years. It's restricting and hasn't cured my problem.

I find garlic and onion are the worse for me to eat. Wheat and dairy are also restricted, especially anything fatty, like cheese and butter as I no longer have a gallbladder.

Well, no gallbladder really doesn't help.

No surpise about garlic and onion as they are fructans which are fodmaps.

Wheat has its own, seperate set of issue, as does dairy and the fat.

What happens if you dont eat for 18 hours or so, do symptoms resolve a bit? ( last meal 8pm, lunch at 2pm if you can handle it)?

Mono-saccharides would be simple carbohydrates, unlikely to be a problem.

I've had it for years brought on by stress , but nearly all my close family have it . Ibs is triggered by stress or food unluckily for me both set mine off . I know what triggers mine so avoid foods and drinks high in sugar fat and definitely salt . Eating too much friut and veg sets mine off too as does sugar free food .

I've talked to alot of people with it and it seems it varies for everyone

Since humans do not possess the enzyme needed to break down fructans into single molecules, they remain too big to be absorbed into the body. Like all molecules that aren’t absorbed in the small intestine, they remain in the digestive tract and continue their path to the large intestine, or colon where become fast food for the healthy bacteria that live there. This is great, because it keeps the bacteria healthy, which in turn keep us healthy. However, when these bacteria feed on fructans (and all FODMAPs) they ferment them and create gas as a side effect. While most people aren’t bothered by this production of gas, people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) are particularly sensitive to stretching of the colon and suffer with pain, bloating and even problems in the toilet department as a result.

Are you up to date with the exact fodmaps list? I don't think its changed much, if at all, in the last 5 /10 years.

I don't even need to follow it as long as I eat correctly.
