I hate it on here when people use poor grammar, whether it's on their profile or in messages! It's always bothered me my whole life, even when I'm talking to someone and they use the wrong word or mispronounce it. I actually have to refrain myself from correcting them as I honestly believe that people genuinely don't know better. What's worse is when people have misspelled or poor grammar in thier heading of their profile! FFS people, check your spelling and grammar before saving it. Us poor grammar snobs have to see the damn mistake everytime we scroll over your profile otherwise, it's enough to give me a migraine 😤. OK rant over! Lol

It doesn’t bother me at all.

I tend to use correct grammar, there’s lots of reasons why some people don’t or can’t.

If I can understand what they’re saying why does it matter?

Also should have used spell check yourself…

Honestly someone getting worked up over misspelling or incorrect grammar, I find, is alot more off-putting than the original offense.

Not the OP having a rant in their own thread about it mind , but people that feel the need to directly point it out in others posts and profiles.

Bit harsh as you have no idea if the person's first language is English; if they had special educational needs etc. I'm a fan of good spelling and grammar but I try not to judge others on this particular issue. I'm judgy enough on everything else!

It does, yes. But I remind myself that people have dyslexia so a proof read won’t necessarily highlight mistakes. I also remember the fact I have read a book for pleasure every single day of my life and my parents enabled that by taking me to a library every Saturday when I was young. Because of that I became good at spelling, grammar, sentence construction, punctuation and prose. Not everyone had/has parents who encourage and enable that.

I also believe the prevalence of electronics with autocorrect has perpetuated a lack of need to be good at spelling - the machine sorts it out for you.

So, I tend to overlook it unless it’s a gift of a Freudian mistake! 😆

If people mispronounce a word it means they've learned that word through reading, so perhaps shouldn't be judged. Many aspects of pronunciation and even grammar are features of local dialect. I share a contempt for lazy text speak and the like, but not for the odd error.

It's ok to have preferences and things that put you off, but they don't need to be shared or pointed out to the person just to get it off your own chest.

Grammarly says of your piece :-

1. No plagiarism

2. 2 spelling mistakes

3. I example of lack of conciseness

4. No problems with word choice

5. 2 grammar errors

6. 2 punctuation errors

7. Readability okay

8. No further writing issues

There. Now it has been marked for you , you can correct it , repost it and hate yourself less.

If the poor grammar is down to blatant laziness and apathy then yes - I do get somewhat disconcerted (and a tad annoyed), especially when they are asking a question that I cannot answer due to equivocacy or miscomprehension.

If the poor grammar is down to dyslexia or a physical impairment (poor eyesight...) then no. That form of 'poor grammar' can still (sometimes) be understood from the word 'constructs' or constituents.

I'm rubbish when it comes to colons, semi-colons and hyphens. I'm not much better with apostrophes.

English is a beautiful and complicated language. The grammar is difficult and the spelling a minefield. I think we should bear in mind that a lot of people find spelling and grammar difficult for many reasons and a lot of people on fab have English as a second language and cut everyone a bit of slack.

That being said certain things do annoy me but I try to concentrate on what's being said rather than how...I don't always succeed

Being dyslexic, I have to work hard to ensure that my grammar and spelling are correct, as such, whilst it doesn't make me angry, I don't like to see it in a post or profile; I also don't like to see text-speak inserted into a sentence.

OP, starting a post about grammar and spelling is always a brave thing to do as it leaves your post open to such scrutiny so good on you, even if you have written every time as one word.

I think there is a certain amount of forgiveness. Like others have stated, English might not be their first language. But text talk or stupid made up words are grating. Also punctuation is a must, we've read through a few profiles and some haven't used a comma or full stop. Which makes deciphering them arduous.

It's a pretty common bug bear for a lot of people and I think it's akin to other people's quirks for needing things organised or ordered in a certain way.

I feel real physical discomfort when I witness someone unable to navigate a computer and have to restrain myself from grabbing the mouse out of their hand.

I don't mind spelling and grammar mistakes but seeing sentences that start without capital letters makes me twitch. Same goes for a lack of paragraphs.

A said above it's only a dick move if your singling someone out and you didn't

Ps I often have to delete posts because my writing is replete with typos

Since there's an abundance of reasons people may have poor spelling and grammer - no I don't judge them nor would I think it appropriate to get on ones high horse to correct them.

Text speak now that bugs me, there isn't an excuse or reason to not want to press an extra letter or two.

This might be unpopular:

Complaining about grammar mistakes and doing them while complaining, that’s something.

You don’t refrain yourself, you just refrain; It is not “thier heading”; It is not “everytime” but “every time”; it is not “Mrs” but “Mrs.” . May be more … overall you are most definitely correct. Some messages don’t make any sense. We all do mistakes.

P.S. you’ll probably find some grammar mistakes in my non-native English haha

I wonder if your post is a ploy to get us all to visit your profile.

I fell for it.

There are grammatical errors, and even possibly a misuse of a word.

I don't judge people for it, I do notice it.

I'm sure I make plenty of mistakes myself.

I have had to stop reading several books where the writing style is irritating.

"I hate it on here when people use poor grammar, whether it's on their profile or in messages! Lol

Mrs x"

You've misspelt 'losing' in your profile.

To clarify, you can say 'loosing a bit of weight', but that reads as the weight you've lost is because you've loosed it - as in, you've had the shits haha.

Each to their own but I don't find the thought of diarrhea particularly hot

My view is that if people are lazy about grammar and spellings then they may be lazy about other things. It’s definitely a negative trait for me.

If you work in the teaching Profession and have access to a Big Red pen. Then your job is to correct Grammer. If you are sat in life correction ones Grammer then you are a pretentious arrogance cunt. Who thinks they are above others. Imagine belittleing anyone because of you air of superiority. Awaits grammer corrections on this message. But I can guarantee at the end of this you will still be a Cunt.

I’m sorry I’m probably the worst offender for it, do try, but unfortunately text how I chat, if that makes sense.

I'm not anal enough to be wound up by it. I know which profiles won't be a good match for me by the way they are written though, so all good from my perspective.

That effort was an ordeal to scan read and must have taken bloody ages to type incorrectly, as well!

"

...

Am amazed how people do not understand the difference between discreet and discrete.

"

I suspect that even if 'discrete' didn't have a different meaning, which many are unaware of, it would still frequently get used as a misspelling.

Typoglycemia. It was an internet meme back in the day.

I have yet to catch up with the concept of 'memes'.

That must have been one before they were even called that!
