Omg...I've been wanting to post this for so long.

What is happening to what was the best Radio station ever.

2 years ago we had the legend that was Steve Wright.(RIP)...his show was a must listen...he was hilarious with his characters and all round comedy and played a great mix of music, an absolute genius...

In fact Radio 2 would be on permanently from 7.30am right through to 9pm.

And let me just say I like all kinds of music from 70s through to current.

Here's my take on the current DJs:

Zoe Ball:

Needs to move on...all very predictable and boring...and certainly not worth the £1million salary.

Vernon Kay:

Absolute class, so funny,he presents like he's not trying to be a DJ and sounds like you could have a beer with him in your pub...Radio 2 please please keep Vernon at all cost.

Jeremy Vine:

He's OK but some of the subjects they discuss are non sensical.

Scott Mills:

Omg.. this guy isn't fit to lace the shoes of Steve Wright, so so boring, this guy should still be on Radio 1, he thinks he's presenting to 18-30 year olds who are all into Eurovision, 90s, 2000s Steps, camp , handbag music..its a camp fest.

He interviews zero personality people on his show...

I have to turn him off pronto for the 2 hours he's on....

Now isn't that a telling point, Steve Wright had a 3 hour show, Scott Mills only does 2 hours.. enough said.

Sara Cox:

Absolutely brilliant, Sara is funny with bundles of personality, now she should be on Zoe Balls salary and R2 should keep her at all costs.

Jo Whiley:

Absolute class...plays great music on her evening show...has the experience to know what the listening audience wants.

R2 other stars:

OJ Borg:

Please please replace Scott Mills with OJ and put Scott on the midnight slot OJ currently does.

OJ has personality and is funny.

Liza Tarbuck:

Absolutely hilarious on her Saturday evening show.

Should replace Zoe Ball right now.

Trevor Nelson:

Plays absolutely brilliant music...experience shines through.

Gary Davies:

Absolute legend, experience shows and he never let's the listener down.

Johnny Walker:

His sounds of the 70s is just a must listen, he's lived a life and is so knowledgeable, very interesting guy who plays great music.

R2 Sack List:

DJ Spooney

Scott Mills (is there nothing he's not on at the moment)

I just don't get it...he's just not talented, so so boring.

I listen to R2 mainly cos I hate commercial radio with their adverts every 10 mins.

If Kay and Cox leave then Radio 2 is totally dead in the water.

People at the BBC who run/organise programmes have their own agenda and are just not interested in what the listening public want.

It's as though overnight the R2 producers just binned the 50+ age group.

They think music only started in 1990....how narrow minded.

Get your act together R2 people.

Interesting review. Not a listener as still scared by the old radio one jocks running the station but might give it a go.

The BBC wouldn't show it on POV if I did send it there...

It's run by muppets...

I mostly agree OP, although I’ve never warmed to Jo Whiley.

And don’t forget Tony Blackburn, Cerys Matthews, Mark Radcliffe (epic Folk show), Jamie Callum, Bob Harris and Mark Goodier!

DJ Spoony IS pretty dire on the radio.

I'd say R2 plays music for all generations....or should I say they did...

They try to cater for all tastes. They’ll never please everyone. So stop complaining.

Yep...all very listenable and yes DJ Spooney is awful...

My view is if you're trying to be a DJ then you're struggling...

You're own personality plus good music should be enough...

I can't stand Sara Cox. I don't find her funny, she just grates on me.

I'm glad there's people out there who enjoy her though🫶

Johnny walker, Paul Gambachini and Gary Davies are the only quality DJs on radio 2, I wish Paul Gambachini was still doing pick of the pops he was great on it.

I can't agree about Vernon Kaye op. I think Radio 2 has gone steadily downhill in the last five or so years anyway and only listen in the car if I really have to.

All tastes between the ages of 15-35, which is basically Radio 1

I disagree with the Scott Mills view. I find him one of the better radio 2 shows. His music is varied, some I like, some less so. But I listen because it's him and not just for the music. When he's off, that show is much worse with Spoony etc. I'd prefer Scott's show to be longer

Stalybridge

Get Graham Norton back on Saturday mornings

Romesh doesn't cut it

---

Huge loss of Paul O'Grady on the Sunday tea time slot (even before he left us)

Again, Rob Beckett doesn't cut it

---

Sunday mornings ruined by Paddy McGuinness

His voice and personality jar with me so much. Radio 2 goes off before he opens his gob

---

Absolutely adore Liza Tarbuck - she's bonkers

---

I know he's divisive, but I think Rylan is good on the Saturday afternoon slot - I love the relationship he has with his Mum

---

Michael Ball - he's a bit simpering at times, but I think he's good on the Love Songs slot

---

Agreed on Scott Mills - boring

---

Vernon Kay falls into the Paddy McGuinness category

---

I like Zoe Ball, but Ritchie Anderson grates on me

---

Sarah Cox is ace

---

Nice to hear Gabby Roslin covering from time to time - get rid of Beckett and give her Sunday teatime

Watford

Mark Goodier doing a decent job on "Pick Of The Pops", particularly as they seemed to have gone back to doing older charts.

They must have lost shitloads of listeners when Ken Bruce moved on.

I suppose it depends on who you grew up listening to aswell , for me Scott Mills was one of voices of Radio 1 so I’d happily have him back , so much better than twat….sorry Matt Edmonson that man grates on me and forces me to switch off , having said that Greg James is just about the only one I can listen to on there now , the rest are like school children , once his show finishes it’s Talk Sport with Jim White and Simon Jordan then Heart 00’s in the afternoon

No longer interested in anything the Boys Buggery Club has to offer. It's only a matter of time before we find out about the next nonce they've been covering for.
