This is a long held bugbear of mine, that great authors seem to lose their ability to communicate when it comes to book titles (Philip K Dick, I’m looking at you!).

Can you share the awful or lame titles for great books?

Perdido Street Station.

Like, the actual station is mentioned like twice in passing through the book. Absolutely no hint of the monster fucking or steampunk AI utilising corpses to speak or unimaginable nightmare creatures that devour consciousness and shit the dreams of the consumed as a physical nugget that people then sell as a recreational high.

I fucking love that book. And the first time someone recommended it to me it sat untouched for months on end because of the stupid boring name and the stupid boring cover and being just shy of a thousand pages. Once I picked it up I didn't sleep til it was done.

But the name still bugs me.

I didn't answer. I absolutely love A Christmas Carol (both the book and the Muppet movie version). I don't feel like the name comes close to doing justice to the awesomeness within.

Don't let's go to the dogs tonight. Great book, unnecessarily long title.

Change it to ‘Total Recall’ and you’ll be well away.

Mine is the ‘The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test’ - sod all about that in the book.

The one that bothers me was "Anna Karenina". The book has lot of interesting characters. It doesn't just focus on her.

Tbf though, Total Recall is much better than the book title, We Can Remember It for You Wholesale, that is a total mouthful of a title.

Alot of John Le Carre's titles are uninspiring

Who would have thought that a story called "The Honourable Schoolboy" would be such a cracking read?
