"The stand Steven king"

I can't stand Stephen king , hence the request to leave him out.

Yes, I have read a few of his and the stand being one of them.

St Margaret's at Cliffe

M R James is good for some atmospheric Victorian style ghost tales, a few have been dramatised, the books are far better.

What’s your particular flavour of horror?

The weird stuff? The bloody? The psychological? A little bit cosy?

I’d also rate Ramsey Campbell, especially his short stories.

Laird Barron is a favourite, as is Robert Aickman. Catriona Ward writes a great scare.

I've read lots of Herbert's books, anyone wanting to try horror or the supernatural should start with his.

I actually like James Herbert alongside the horror some of his earlier books had lurid sex scenes as well

Dennis Wheatley, a few of his like The Devil Rides Out and The Satanist. Hammer Films often took his books and a made a decent film or two.

I read a book about an entity called Enoch when I was a teenager, that I felt was quite scary.

I've tried to find it since but no amount of Googling has helped me find it.

Doesn't ring a bell, but it's the sort of book that would appeal to me.

Is Enoch invisible and does he ride on the head of the protagonist and bite and claw his scalp to make him commit murders ?

Yes, I think that's it. At the end I think it/he travels to someone else.

Many thanks.

Try a google for " The Atlantic A Sea Story " , it'll take you to a well written article in The Atlantic about the truly awful sinking of the MS Estonia ship. I think it's the scariest thing I have ever read.

Clive Barker - Weaveworld is also a good fantasy / horror

There are also the psychological horror Flowers in the Attic series by V.C. Andrews

And a South Korean horror trilogy : The Vegetarian by Han Kang gets seriously under your skin!

My go to stories for Spooky Season -

The Woman in Black - Susan Hill

Hell House - Richard Matheson

Whilst M.R.James is considered the master of the ghost story and worthy finding a 'best of' his stories, I'd recommend E.F.Benson and his short stories. His short story, "In The Tower" is a proper chiller.
