All over the place! Northwesr, , Southwest

I'm now 100% committed to learning this and hope to begin practising soon.

Any one here enjoy it, or has experience in this who could provide some useful tips to an uninitiated, but keen novice?

Thanks in advance 😁

There's loads of good videos and tutorials online. I like to practice knots at home with a short length of rope bit like a cub scout. I've not been to one but a friend fine has attended an organised event to learn shibari they said it was great as could work on techniques and get experienced help. I had a fwb who enjoyed it but I don't get to do it often now. Get decent natural rope not plastic crap.

I am a bit shibari police on this as people use shibari as being interchangeable with rope bondage. It's like saying I want to learn football. Even excluding the round ball there three sorts of oval ball football and all different.

Whinge over.

I hope below is helpful, it has not been updated.

An updated version of something I have posted a few times.

As a general rule it is best to learn from someone who is experienced. Understanding tension is important and the purpose of ties can be critical. Therefore, check if there is a peer rope near you.

If you don't want to leave the house.

Books

Most have a sections on safety and choice or rope.

Two of those books were written by the Knotty Boys,. One is "Showing You The Ropes". The books are not my thing but people like them and are worth checkling if you like pretty rope. Unfortunately YouTube has removed most of their videos.

Although I am into Japanese style rope, rope is about fun and can be about sexy times. To that end I like Chantra Rose's "Bondage for Sex. You can find her in action online on porn sites in her domination of women videos "Chanta's Bitches"( not for the fainthearted).

Other books I would mention are:

Lee Harrington's "Shibari You Can Use" and "More Shibsri you can use"

Midori's "The Seductive Art Japanese Bondage"

Lord Morpheus' "Bondage Basics'

Pete Riggs *Rope Bondage The Smart Way"

Jay Wiseman "Basic Rope Bondage"

Essence of Shibari by Shin Nawakiri is worth a look.

If tying men is your thing I would recommend,Stephen Niederwieser's "Tie Me Up!

For rope bottoms:

Evie Vanes "Better Bondage Every Body"

Clover's guide for rope bottoms and rope models.

If you want a good holistic book in bondage and D/S and don't mind a long read, Mistress Couple's "Ultimate Guide to Bondage" would be worth a look.

If self suspension is your thing Shay Toxiano's "Tying & Flying"

If you want videos the makers of rope deGiotta, and also Twisted Monk used to separately have videos on Vimeo and YouTube as is Rory's Brainworks, Watts the Safe Word . Also recommended on Youtube is ChristianRed's Bondage Tuition. There is also The Duchy.

Crash Restraint has a good syllabus but a number of the links are dead.

I recommend The Rope Podcast.

In addition to the previous post: Esinem has online tutorials. as has Anatomie has videos, as has bondage tuition on YouTube.Ebi Mcknotty rope 365 is worth looking up.

I use two paid online resources Shibari Study (about £200pa but id only rope) and Kink Acadamy (about £150 but covers the whole range of BDSM and kink).

"Miumi-U Teaches Japanese Shibari"

is a recommended book.

Other books are "Shibari" by Phillippe Boxis which is in French and English.

As is the Shibaku books 1 and 2 by Peter Wettstein, the third is not translated into English.

"Osez le Bondage is a pocket book by Axterdam with French and English Editions.

For German speakers Matthias Grimm has his Japanese Bondage.

There are Douglas Kent's books, but because they are out of print they are becoming stupidly expensive, and they are old school.

"Bondage' David La Greca It has a good philosophical side

If philosophy is your thing "Discovering Kinbaku' Zetsu Nawa is worth a look as is "Pdychology of BDSM & Rope Bondage" by Sin.

If history is your thing the podcast and associated material of the Kinbakunomicon by Faviola is excellent. As is the "The Beauty of Kinbaku" by Master K.

There is a documentary based in London starting at the Flying Dutchman (another site lost to us) filmed 2010 to 2014 by Bob Bentley (although now dated the scene has changes hugely) " The Pleasure of Rope' clips on YouTube.

For a different take on the history of shibari you can search for Midori's online commentary "

The History & Myths of Japanese Bondage"

Please support providers and also teachers of kink, especially rope.

Rope done badly can cause serious harm.

Al I can do is single and two column toes, but they are good and safe and look neat. It’s all you need to restrain , anything else is just arty

You might have missed out the bit about the reef knot being 'right over left, left over right' otherwise it won't hold.

Or was it left over right first?

SIDMOUTH

Interested in the ropework.

But i am a much better visual learner.

Luckily i think my playmate will become a rope bunny so i have a subject to practice on.

But what avenues do i explore to find a local experienced practitioner to learn from ?

I use different knots for my single columns.

I seriously hated tying knots as a scout I could not do a reef knot to save my life as a kid,but I love shibari because its not about knots. There are skills such as body movement, rope handling, understanding tension which are more important than knots.

But in Western bondage knots are everything.

I've looked at some interesting tutorials on single and two column ties. It didn't seem too difficult, just more a case of practising to get the sequence correct
