Did you win the Omaze house?

I often wonder if a big prize like a house is actually beneficial to anyone?

Apparently these houses are on the market for ages (generally the same estate agent) before image scoops them up to “give them away” insert a conspiracy theory here…

So the idea of being able to sell it once won is one, obviously and keeping the cash but, what if you can’t sell it due to the above?

Still… wouldn’t mind a house from the Omaze price draw if the council tax and the cost of just turning the lights on wasn’t such a bugger…

.

You would be able to sell it easily if you price it low enough

I entered a draw for a local 4 bed house. Not enough tickets were sold and a small cash prize was given instead.

The Omaze houses are genuine properties in great locations that have already been or have good potential for remodelling. They are then landscaped and dressed as per the competition photos. Sure there maybe a few ‘shortcuts’ taken to obtain the superficial appearance which might come back to bite the new owners but on the whole they are finished to a high enough standard that I’d love to win one. I’ve got a couple of friends who work for one of the companies behind Omaze that remodel, prep and dress the properties. A couple of the Cornwall ones would have been a dream home for me

I'd move in if I had won I mean they look amazing and you get everything inside aswell as a car and cash it is a fantastic prize I'd sell the car because I don't have a licence and not interested in driving but the house would be mine

I think it's a bit of bait and switch.

Often enough not enough tickets are sold and so it's a cash prize and I doubt half the numbers would enter if they knew that it was just likely to be a small cash prize.

No but I live in hope.

I'll admit I have the monthly subscription that costs £10 and supposedly gets you 30/60 entries into each draw and early bird prize.

One can dream. x

It’s not - those houses are actually won. Big Charities (like Omaze has now become) have ‘Prize Insurance’ to cover for possible lack of revenues from fund raising where the payouts aren’t covered. Omaze is technically a charity but in reality it’s a front for a building development company. Charity prize draw giveaways makes massively much more money for them than simply buying / developing and selling individual houses. They usually do a deal with a property owner, usually ones that can’t raise money to do up a rundown property with high potential to sell (location, location, location…). Contracts are created which allows the property owner a bigger bonus for selling with no financial commitment (or some are actually only paid when the draw funds are released). The property is gutted refurbished and then dressed to be a prize (you notice that all Omaze properties are pristine looking, nobody is living / has lived in them since being remodelled). The Omaze draw revenues are huge now, if only 5 to 10% of it actually goes to a charity - where do you think the rest of it goes? Yep, the Buidling Development company that’s behind it, operating costs, purchase of assets, profits…

Not a scam exactly as it does officially operate as a legit charity and those prizes are actually won but it is extremely lucrative…

I’d still want one 😄

There was an article a while back looking at the winners of the omaze House; can't remember the details, but I think most people sold the house and there was a couple still living in theirs.

I enter but do think I'd have to sell as couldn't afford to live in it long term.

The woman who does the adverts has most annoying voice. Also it’s a business , despite giving proceeds to charity.

Owned by the Eisner family who own a football club among other things.

I'd happily have any of the Omaze houses.

There are a few similar "raffles" now. I've seen one for cars, boats, tech and even for guitars. There is momey to be made from them and thats the bottom line. They are a business, Omaze do donate a million pound to charity but they also make a tonne of cash too. I enter the draws freely and with this knowledge, it could be me...

I think there are quite a few winners who have financial obligations or debts that would mean keeping and maintaining a large valuable asset like the Omaze houses would be madness. A big house isn’t for everyone
