My cat has started shitting in my house 
Worst is I let him out and then a few minutes later I find he has not come back after a shit he has come back in to shit! What can I do! He is old now so he is probably just losing his marbles but I do love him (maybe a little less nowadays  ) |

Only thing you can do is to try litter trays, once they start losing marbles, it’s a downhill slope in old cats.
Has there been any big changes at home that may have caused some stress?

Oh bless him. He's an old fella now so you might need to extend your patience limits. Definitely book an appointment with the vets and get him checked over.
Assuming everything is ok with his health, then you'll have to try litter trays (if you don't already have them). It might take a while to find the right litter and the right spot, you might need more than one. Be patient and compassionate.

They will continue to pee/poop in the sane spot if the area is not cleaned thoroughly... However, best bet is newspaper and a litter tray.
I have one permanently in my spare loo.. They often go out for a walk and then come back to poop, esp as ut gets wetter /colder at least they are not annoying the neighbours i guess. |

He has been going in the same room (just a small bedroom with currently has no carpets so straight onto the concrete) I will at least give the litter tray a try so I can keep it under some sort of control! And I guess a trip to the vets will be in order but I am just not sure what they could do!

Why? He has always gone to the toilet outside! Just recently this has changed but he always has a route to get out when he want and this worked perfectly fine for many years! |

As others have said put a litter tray down for him.
Our cat is 17 and we've started putting one out at night for him. As they get older they're vulnerable and they know it. When they're pooing they're even more vulnerable so coming inside might be his way of keeping safer. It can also be a stress response our vets cat poos in her husband's work boots if it's upset .
Try a calming plug in device such as Feliway too.

A 15 year old Cat is around 76 in human years if you work it out. It's old age and unfortunately part of what comes with it.
A vet checkup is probably wise to check for anything else that could be happening, but you may just need to adapt with them ageing unfortunately.
Get some of those training pads and put them down to save your floors. Easier to clean then as well. |

My two year old cat is a brat and does this DESPITE having a litter tray and access to the outdoors.
In the past week she has wee'd and poo'd on the carpet in my bedroom... once blatantly started right in front of me 😭😭😭

We've always had cats. Our old girl started going in the house. Turned out she was very poorly. Cats don't want other cats/animals to know they're unwell, so they won't poo outside where illness can be detected in the poo. Please get him to the vets asap. Very best wishes to you. F x |

I've had cats for 60 years (not the same ones!), and there's some good advice above, but the best is - take him/her to the vet. Cats shit indoors usually because of stress, but it's finding the reason for this stress that's the hard part. It could be due to age, illness or there may be a new cat on the block. Flea season is extended this year because of the warmer weather, which could be a factor if you're not up to date with treatment. Best of luck  |

Definitely a new cat on the block as I saw it the other day harassing my baby! He has been terrorized all his life as he is only a little boy…umm where is this warmer weather you talk about 🤔 fleas have been pretty crazy this year though I just can’t keep up! |

The new kit on the block sounds like you may have found the cause of your boy's stress. Also, it only takes a couple of degrees up for fleas to continue to flourish, you may have to go the whole hog and spray all carpets and furniture with flea killer. If you haven't got one, a covered litter tray is best, put it somewhere near where your cat is already crapping. Failing that, put a tall-ish cardboard box over a standard litter tray, not forgetting to cut a cat-sized hole in the box first! Feliway plug-ins will also help, and some extra toys/stimulation for your cat to encourage him to stay in and stay calm. |

My 2yr old twat/cat goes outside litter box(s). Kinda cracked it by utilising a washing up bowl as a litter tray, after she was going in actual washing up bowl 🙄
Apparently she likes the high sides, and that is the place to go... In fairness other dick cat started pissing down the bath plug hole!... 15 is a good kitty age. But considering they can live till 20. I'd do a vet visit to check no health issues |

Probably pooping where it feels safe, cat's feel very vulnerable when going to toilet it's a natural instinct so tend to keep to the same place, perhaps that place has been compromised in some way.
A litter tray and paper in the area will hopefully help.
We have two fur babies and both will go out for ages then come back in and poo in the litter tray. |

Definitely have his health and diet evaluated. Perhaps a steady reorganisation of the home, so that he gets a customized living and shitting area. Definitely review what may be increasing stresses for him, possibly including other animals outside.
Cats are very sensitive to smells, so you can adopt them to encourage or discourage where and how he uses space.
Be gentle and proceed slowly and progressively. |
