Hi, just reading a status from a lady in Thirsk who has suffered abuse from a man using multiple phones.
Because this site is free it allows every Tom, dick 'n' Harry in.
Should there be a 1, 2, 3 strikes and you're out policy introduced?
What's the members thoughts on the subject of abusive messages and the best way to tackle this issue (aside from a block button and reporting the abuse to admin?

There are no other ways of dealing with it other than the block button and reporting functions.
There’s no way to control another’s behaviour, no matter how much we’d like to think that people should do better. It’s a pipe dream to think that you can educate everyone to stop them sending abuse. The internet has created the anonymity to do so with very little recourse.
Let’s take your 3 strikes and out idea.
Abusive member gets struck out. They create a new profile within hours, and resume their campaign of nastiness. |

Abuse, by men on women or women on men is wrong and shouldn’t happen or be tolerated under any circumstances, full stop.
How would you stop an offender from rejoining under different profiles? Most IP address are dynamic nowadays, and email accounts are free and easy to create. |

Think it’s shocking it’s a fun site I get knock backs all the time, and rightly so if I’m not what there seeking, but wouldn’t dream of abusing them, it’s fun and if attitudes don’t change before you know it there won’t be couples or females left on this site. |

As someone once said, “ there is the way it should be and there is the way it is”
Online abuse, trolling and bullying as unacceptable as it is happens.
No one enjoys rejection but unfortunately there are some who can’t take it like an adult and need to make themselves feel better by being abusive.
I think you need to grow a thick skin on here and as has been said you can report and block.
Never give them the satisfaction of replying. |

Women aren’t helpless damsels needing protecting from horrible men on the site. They are quite capable of dealing with abuse themselves.
Any woman, tv/ts or openly gay person of either gender will be very familiar with online abuse. And how to respond to it.

Admin have very well defined policies upon unacceptable behaviour. It's up to the site owners to determine how they proceed, with those who break policies and making their tools etc, explicitly public, may encourage people to try to work around them.
If you want to help to improve Fab, report every user who's behaving inappropriately, to Admin. Even if they're blocked, you can still report. Every report made is always investigated. |

Until then there is a BLOCK button.
To me ...... anyone using their status for topics like this isn't helping matters.
I mean - some bloke might decide to tell everyone else and then we'll all start talking about it and no one even knows if it's true ....

As for virtue signalling — I don't think it is (I've seen worse). I'm giving the OP the benefit of the doubt: he's new to Fab/Forums and he's probably noticing abhorrent behaviours from men that probably go against his sensibilities. |

Frankly, such men need to be taken to task. The site itself needs to have an option to block IP addresses. As well as register stalking to the police. When the police turn up on the idiots doorstep, we'll see how determined he is then. |

Feel like a broken record on here. Just set your filters to maximum and you'll never get that shit, you have to jump through about 6 hoops to message us, we never get any shite because the only people who can message us are genuine. |

The biggest problem I have with status updates is that they are often used to manipulate the easily manipulated.
Gullibility is an affliction on fab.
The Ireland forum has been filled in recent weeks with tales of false accusations and issues with validation and jealousy.
I don't believe anything written in a status update just as I don't believe anything written by those I know from experience to be professional victims. |

I think you should have to add your phone number like tinder not to display the number but you can only have one account per phone number… it Will eliminate some of the dick heads that like to make multiple accounts.. |

I agree with that. But also make it if your not photo varied or site supported you can send 3 messages a day. Would cut out the friday and saturday make a profile as wife out on town and i want a wank crew. |

I'd stay clear of anyone naming and supposedly shaming.
There's 2 sides to every story.
Abuse is not ok but it's pretty easy to block and ignore.
