Did anyone see Casualty on TV last night? They raised the issue of Female Genital Mutilation. How terrible to do that to young girls and in the name of tradition or religion it just ain't right!
I hope the show changes attitudes but will it? |

Over the rainbow, under the bridge |
This has been highlighted in the media on and off for many many years. It has never appeared to change attitudes before and I see no reason why it would now. I'm surprised that the BBC has taken so long to get it in to a mainstream forum such as Casualty to be honest. There have been many documentaries and news reports over the years. I thought most people already knew about it.
The only thing which will change things is if countries which have this as a prevalent problem actually outlaw it AND prosecute people who break that law. Simply having a law against it and not ensuring that law is followed is rather pointless. |

"Is it a religious practise or a cultural one?
If it is a religious practice why can't people be left the way God intended? "
Because some religions are more repressive then others and their scripture has been interpreted by religious leaders (usually men) to suit what they believe is the right way to treat a mans servants and chattels. (man fucks 10 women he is a great man amongst men, even if some were raped and underage, A woman fucks 5 men she is a slut and stoned to death) |
