The puss is essentially dead white cells and bacteria. A boil ideally needs to be treated with either an anti bacterial or antibiotics (doxycycline, minocycline or tetracycline) lancing is really considered a last option nowadays as there is an increased risk of a carbunkle forming... |

Soak your flannel in boiled water that's had aspirin dissolved in it and apply it for 10 mins.
Aspirin is basically salicylic acid which kills bacterial and fungal skin infections when applied topically... |

Mag sulph paste from the chemists will draw it out and then you can break it gently when the skin is friable and clean out with a solution of dilute hydrogen peroxide and dress with inadine and gauze or jelonet and gauze all available via the nurse at your gp or at your pharmacy.
Would recommend a course of fluclox or co amoxiclav if the area immediately around the boil is very hot and red, this indicates more than a localised infection needing antibiotics really.
The local walk in centres are pretty good with stuff like this, you can do your own if you are careful or your GP's nurse will sort it.
I did my own when I had to drain an abscess recently. |
