For all you tech experts - recently bought a new laptop as my old one was being awkward, I stream to a TV via HDMI now my issue is it used to work with my old one but doesn't with my new.
Any suggestions? |

"Does anything happen with the new one or just black screen? Also, if it's brand new make sure to do all the updates and install any drivers.

TV just sits there with hdmi 2 (that's the plug it's in) laptop screen is fine. Just updating the bios but I can't see that having an effect |

BIOS probably won't but check to see if there are any display drivers for your laptop on the manufacturer's website, and check for Windows (I presume) updates even if you've just done an update.

Did you remove the HDMI from the TV before plugging your new laptop in? It's possible you've plugged it into a different HDMI socket this time. Have a quick scan through the HDMI sources with your remote and see...

If the laptop screen is fine try going to display settings, go to the bit for extra screens and choose "extend display" (assuming you're on a Windows laptop". Then drag whatever you're streaming over to the TV. |

Did look at that but it's not detecting the tv |

"A Firestick and £65 IPTV and you'll never need that laptop again for a year
Mr F. "
But that won't let me view pictures or videos I've taken on a bigger screen (TV) so to me that's an inferior solution |

Does your laptop have 2 usb-c ports on the same side as the hdmi port?
We found at work that having the USBC in the top port closest to the screen prevented the hdmi from working. Move the power to the next USBC ports down and hdmi worked. These were Lenovo laptops.
Think one port is power in and out, data and screen out and the next is power in, data and screen out.

Here is what ChatGPT says:
If your HP laptop with a Ryzen 7 processor is not displaying anything on the TV via HDMI, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can follow:
### 1. **Check HDMI Cable and Ports**
- Ensure the HDMI cable is properly connected to both your laptop and TV.
- Try using a different HDMI cable or port on the TV to rule out a faulty cable or port.
### 2. **Select the Correct HDMI Input on the TV**
- Use your TV remote to switch to the correct HDMI input. There may be multiple HDMI ports, so make sure you select the one your laptop is connected to.
### 3. **Duplicate or Extend Display**
- On your laptop, press `Windows Key + P`. This will open the display mode options.
- You can choose between:
- **Duplicate**: Mirror your laptop screen to the TV.
- **Extend**: Use the TV as an extended screen.
- **Second screen only**: Only show the display on the TV.
- Select the desired mode and check if the display appears.
### 4. **Update Display Drivers**
- Sometimes outdated or corrupted drivers can cause HDMI issues. Try updating your graphics/display drivers:
1. Open **Device Manager** (press `Windows Key + X`, then select **Device Manager**).
2. Expand the **Display adapters** section.
3. Right-click your graphics adapter (e.g., AMD Radeon or integrated graphics) and select **Update driver**.
4. Choose **Search automatically for updated driver software** and follow the instructions.
### 5. **Adjust Display Resolution**
- Some TVs may not support certain resolutions. To adjust the resolution:
1. Right-click on your desktop and select **Display settings**.
2. Scroll down to **Display resolution** and choose a lower resolution (e.g., 1920x1080).
3. Apply the changes and see if the display works.
### 6. **Try Restarting Both Devices**
- Sometimes simply restarting both the laptop and TV while the HDMI is connected can resolve connection issues.
If the issue persists after these steps, it could be related to hardware (e.g., faulty HDMI port) or a deeper software issue.
Assuming you've tried steps 1, 2 and 3? |

I've tried many of those but there are a couple I've not so I'll give them a go. Thanks for the info.
A bit of googling also raised the point that the protocol communication between TV and laptop may no longer work as the TV's too old |

I was just going to ask if the tv is still compatible with the newer laptop!
It's a pain in the bloody ass when you don't replace everything at the same time |
