Breath with your mouth
Wear swimming goggles
Place a wet piece of kitchen paper next to the onion you're cutting
Don't lean over the chopping board, keep a straight and upright back so that your face isn't directly above the onions

Use your razor sharp wit. Failing that go on a cruise to the Bahamas depart and do some snorkeling, cycling and examine the mating rituals of rare species of snails and when you get back the onion will be rotten so you won't have to do it anyway |

Tape your eyes closed with duck tape and guess where the onion is, granted you may lose a finger but your eyes won't sting!"
